Disney released the official trailer for Hexed today, giving fans their best look yet at the witch realm of Hexe, Walton Goggins as a three-eyed cat named Beef Roger Crummchuk and Jodie Foster as the villain Queen Celeste. Walt Disney Animation Studios’ 65th feature opens exclusively in theaters November 25, 2026.
We have been following Hexed since CinemaCon in April, when Hailee Steinfeld and Rashida Jones were announced as the leads, and through the first teaser in June. Steinfeld voices Billie Doe, an impulsive teenager whose hidden magic pulls her out of the suburbs and into Hexe. Jones voices her cautious mother, Alice, and the two end up uncovering family secrets that could change the world of witches.
The new trailer fills in a lot of that story. Alice has been keeping Billie’s powers in check with a purple gem on her wrist, and once Billie accidentally opens a portal to Hexe, her mom has to go in after her. Goggins narrates as Beef, a surly green cat who becomes Billie’s reluctant teacher, and their first lessons cost the family a microwave. Queen Celeste wants Billie captured, and a prophecy about an ordinary girl becoming an extraordinary witch hints at why. The whole thing is set to Paramore’s “Ain’t It Fun.”
Story is where the online conversation has been since June. Early reactions to the teaser called the premise familiar, and plenty of fans compared it to The Owl House, Disney Channel’s own series about a human teen who ends up in a world of witches. Hexed also started as a different story. When it was first announced at Destination D23 in August 2025, it centered on an awkward teenage boy and his mother. The mother-daughter version that reached the screen puts Alice’s secret at the center, and this trailer makes that secret the hook.
Then there is the framing debate. When the teaser arrived, viewers noticed how many shots kept the action locked in the center of the frame, and a theory spread that the film had been composed to crop cleanly into vertical video for TikTok and Reels. Directors Fawn Veerasunthorn and Jason Hand pushed back at Annecy, as we covered in their response to the vertical video backlash. Hand called the claim “bizarre and not true” and pointed to the work the team has done with aspect ratio to shape how the world feels to Billie. Veerasunthorn said each shot is framed around whether Billie feels free or restricted in that moment. Early coverage of the new trailer has focused on Beef, Queen Celeste and the story, and nobody has reopened the framing argument yet.
Our take is that this trailer does what the teaser could not. A teen discovering she is a witch is a familiar setup, but a mom who has been hiding her daughter’s powers on purpose gives Hexed a real question to answer, and Beef looks like the scene-stealer this marketing push needed. The centered-framing talk was always going to be settled by the movie and not a trailer. Six weeks out, Hexed finally looks like it knows what kind of story it is telling.
Hexed is directed by Fawn Veerasunthorn and Jason Hand, co-directed by Josie Trinidad, produced by Roy Conli and Yvett Merino, and written by Jared Bush and Dana Ledoux Miller. Before it opens, Hexed has its own gallery inside The Magic of Disney Animation at Hollywood Studios, with concept art and character turnarounds. In theaters, it will play with the new Lilo & Scratch short, which brings Chris Sanders back as the voice of Stitch.
