Walt Disney Animation Studios has released the first trailer and poster for Hexed, an original animated coming-of-age film releasing exclusively in theaters on November 25, 2026. This is the studio’s 65th animated feature.
The trailer introduces Billie, a teenage girl described by the directors as impulsive and unconventional, voiced by Hailee Steinfeld. When Billie accidentally unleashes secret magical abilities, she is pulled out of suburbia and into a hidden magical realm called Hexe, where she begins uncovering family mysteries that could reshape the entire world of witches.
Two new cast members join the previously announced Steinfeld and Rashida Jones, who voices Billie’s cautious mother Alice. Seven-time Emmy Award winner Tracey Ullman voices Ms. Quill, an enchanted feather quill pen who greets Billie upon her arrival in Hexe. Stephen Fry voices Elias Quire, a magical journal. Both characters serve as guides of sorts as Billie’s journey through the hidden world unfolds.
Director Fawn Veerasunthorn described Billie as someone who has always felt miscast in her own life — and the film as the story of what happens when leaving the normal world behind is the thing that finally allows her to understand herself. Co-director Jason Hand framed Hexe as the place where Billie feels seen for the first time, with her journey of self-discovery tied directly to long-held secrets about her family.
Hexed is directed by Veerasunthorn and Hand, co-directed by Josie Trinidad, and produced by Roy Conli and Yvett Merino. Watch the first trailer below.
Our Take: Walt Disney Animation Studios’ 65th feature arriving on Thanksgiving is not an accident — that release date is reserved for films the studio believes in. Hexed has the visual identity of something genuinely original rather than franchise-adjacent, and the casting of Ullman and Fry as enchanted objects is exactly the kind of unexpected choice that separates a Disney classic from a Disney film. Steinfeld has the range to carry a coming-of-age emotional arc. November 25 cannot get here fast enough.
