Disney’s Hexed opens exclusively in theaters on Wednesday, November 25, 2026, and Disney has shared new details on who’s who in the film, from 16-year-old Billie Doe to a silent cauldron named Bucket. We were in the Honda Center for the Disney Entertainment Showcase on the opening night of D23 2026, August 14, when Hailee Steinfeld, Jodie Foster, Walton Goggins and Walt Disney Animation Studios Chief Creative Officer Jared Bush came out on stage for Hexed. Disney has since published a behind-the-scenes look at the film with new details on its characters and the hidden witch realm of Hexe.
Billie Doe and Alice, the Mother and Daughter at the Center of Hexed
Billie Doe, voiced by Hailee Steinfeld, is a 16-year-old Disney describes as impulsive, misunderstood and unconventional. She finds out she has secret magical powers and ends up pulled from the suburbs into Hexe, a hidden land of witches. Director Fawn Veerasunthorn summed up how the team feels about her: “We wish we could be her.”
Alice, voiced by Rashida Jones, is Billie’s mother. She has kept Billie’s powers hidden since Billie was a child, and in the trailer she does it with a purple gem on her wrist. When Billie crosses into Hexe, Alice follows her, and the two uncover family secrets that put every witch in Hexe at risk. Producer Roy Conli said Jones was the first actor cast in the film. Writer Jared Bush has said the bond between Alice and Billie is the idea the whole story was built around.
Queen Celeste, Beef Roger, Bucket, Quill and Quire
Queen Celeste, voiced by Jodie Foster, rules the darker corners of Hexe. She is the only other witch in Hexe who can fly, and that is why she sees Billie as a threat to her power.
Beef Roger Crummchuk, voiced by Walton Goggins, is a reclusive three-eyed cat who reluctantly helps Billie and Alice. In the trailer, his first lessons with Billie cost the family a microwave.
Bucket is an enchanted cauldron who travels with Billie and never says a word. Quill, voiced by Tracey Ullman, and Quire, voiced by Stephen Fry, are a feather quill and a magical journal who greet Billie at the entrance to Hexe. Disney says the pair are a nod to the studio’s past, including Beauty and the Beast.
How Magic Works in Hexed
Magic in Hexe comes from inside each witch or wizard, and much of it is inspired by nature. Every character’s magic has its own color and look. Billie’s shows up as small pops of sparks that fizzle out when they hit a surface. She already knows the witch stories from the human world, so she learns how Hexe’s magic actually works at the same time the audience does.
Hexed Release Date, Creative Team and the Lilo & Scratch Short
Hexed is Walt Disney Animation Studios’ 65th feature. Fawn Veerasunthorn and Jason Hand direct, with Josie Trinidad as co-director. Academy Award winners Roy Conli and Yvett Merino produce, and Jared Bush and Dana Ledoux Miller wrote the script. The film opens exclusively in theaters on November 25, 2026, with the new Lilo & Scratch short playing before it.
