Walt Disney World has shared updated concept art for Welcome to Monstropolis, the new show coming to the Glob Theater at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2027. The lobby artwork now shows different chandeliers and posters than the version Disney put on display less than two weeks ago, and our latest construction photos show the same monster details going up on real buildings.
The lobby art first appeared in late September, when Walt Disney Presents added new Monstropolis displays. That version hung an eyeball-and-teeth chandelier over the room. The new art swaps it for fixtures with round glass bulbs on curling arms above a green glass bowl with a scaled pattern. They look like something out of a 1920s movie palace, with the monster touch saved for the scales.
The posters beside the concession stand changed too. One now advertises a keyboard-playing monster in a fedora and dark glasses, with the Glob name across the bottom. The earlier art included a spoof poster titled Silence of the Cribs, and it no longer appears. The rest of the room holds steady. Monster Concessions still anchors the back wall under a lit sign, red curtains hang along the upper level, and screens above the theater doors read “Welcome to Monstropolis.”
The show art puts Mike and Sulley at center stage under a carved arch of tentacles with a many-eyed monster face at the top. Doors hang from claw rigs above the performers with a net strung between them, and a giant yellow laugh canister bursts through the wall in a cloud of vapor. A monster band plays from a box at the side of the house, and screens on the walls carry the action to the back rows.
Sharing the stage are monsters who look a lot like the Oozma Kappa crew from Monsters University, including Art, Terri and Terry, and Don Carlton. Look closely and you will find orange long-eared hares all over the theater. The same critter showed up as a sculpted maquette at Walt Disney Presents, which suggests they will pop up around the land. The show also carries an original song by Randy Newman, his first written for a theme park, as Disney announced at D23 2026.
Out front, the marquee bills the show as “A Scarefree Theatrical Extravaganza.” A banner from the Monstropolis Department of Human Relations welcomes guests, which fits the H.U.M.A.N. Day story Disney set up for the land. Mike and Sulley greet families on a red carpet under the clock tower.
Elsewhere on the site, scaffolding still covers a brick building marked with Public Restrooms signs at ground level. Up close the trim is easy to read. A cream band cut like a row of teeth runs under the roofline, and the window frames flare into points that look like horns. Imagineers have talked about working horns and teeth into the city’s architecture, and here it is on a real wall. A wooden water tank and green rooftop vents sit above it.
From Grand Avenue, the gable end of that same building is visible behind the Ice Cold Hydraulics wall. It is covered in scalloped shingles with arched window frames set into it.
Another facade with white tapered window frames is still behind scaffolding, and a rooftop piece is wrapped in tarp next to a weathered metal roof. A line of raw concrete columns now stands along the front of the site. We will be watching to see what goes on top of them.
