Walt Disney Presents at Disney’s Hollywood Studios now has a bigger Monstropolis preview, with new Walt Disney Imagineering signs, three “monsterfied” animal maquettes, a yellow laugh canister prop and a closer look at the Glob Theater, including the first concept art of its lobby. Monstropolis, the Monsters, Inc. land taking over the former Muppets Courtyard, opens in 2027, with the Monsters, Inc. Door Vault suspended coaster following at a later date. The display is inside Walt Disney Presents and included with park admission.
Some of this will look familiar if you followed our Monstropolis coverage from D23 2026. The monster animal maquettes and several pieces of concept art debuted at D23 in August, and now fans who couldn’t make the trip can see them in person at Hollywood Studios.
A new Monstrous Maquettes sign explains that Imagineering worked with Pixar to create a cast of “monsterfied” animals that will live on the streets of Monstropolis. Three are on display. The Monster Pigeon Sculpt is a two-headed pigeon caught mid-squawk. The Splitting Hare Sculpt is an orange, long-eared hare that lives up to its name. The Monster Squirrel Sculpt has three eyes, little horns and a trio of bushy tails. The sign calls them just some of the wildlife guests may run into, so expect to spot more of them around the land when it opens.
Next to the maquettes is a full-size yellow laugh canister, the most recognizable prop from Monsters, Inc. In the film, these canisters collected screams before the company switched to laughs, and Monstropolis is set in the era after that discovery of Laugh Power.
The biggest addition is a closer look at the Glob Theater, the renovated Grand Avenue theater that will host Welcome to Monstropolis, the Mike and Sulley stage show featuring an original Randy Newman song. New concept art shows the theater lobby for the first time, with red curtains, balcony boxes, screens welcoming guests and a chandelier built from eyeballs and teeth. A second piece shows the outside at dusk, with a marquee billing Welcome to Monstropolis as a Scarefree Theatrical Extravaganza, Sulley and Mike greeting families on a red carpet, and a banner from the Monstropolis Department of Human Relations welcoming humans. The clock tower behind it is the same one we watched rise during construction last month.
A second new sign lays out what’s coming to the land. Guests can catch a show at the Glob Theater, eat at Harryhausen’s, shop at the Scareporium and ride the Monsters, Inc. Door Vault, which the sign calls the first suspended coaster ever built for a Disney park. It all ties back to the H.U.M.A.N. Day storyline Disney shared in June, and work continues outside, with track installation underway on the door coaster.
If you missed D23, this is the easiest way to see these pieces up close, and it only takes a few minutes. The part we’d tell a friend to look for is the Glob Theater lobby art, since it’s the first time Disney has shown what the inside of the theater will look like. The monster animals are a close second. They’re funny, a little weird, and exactly the kind of small detail that makes a land feel lived in, so it’s worth knowing what to look for before Monstropolis opens.
