The first coaster tracks are now installed on their supports inside the Monstropolis door coaster building at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, a huge milestone for Disney’s first suspended coaster. New aerial photos also show blue exterior wall panels and roof decking going onto the building. We have been following this site since our July construction update, when the story was black support columns and bare structural steel. In September, the track pieces were staged on the ground and started to be lifted into the framework. This week you can see them connected section to section and sitting on their supports.
The track is light gray and easy to pick out against the black columns. One run arcs through a row of tall, gate-shaped supports. Another bends into a tight curve close by. The sections bolt together at round flanges, and the open ends show where the next pieces will connect. Workers and boom lifts on the concrete slab below give a sense of scale, and the supports stand well above all of them.
There is still a long way to go. Several A-shaped supports in the same photos are standing empty and waiting on track. This will be Disney’s first suspended coaster, which means the trains hang below the track instead of riding on top of it. It will also be Disney’s first coaster with a vertical lift, built to recreate the door vault scene in Monsters, Inc.
The other big change is on the outside. Blue wall panels now cover one corner of the building, a lighter blue on the upper level and a darker blue below, with window openings and a ground-level doorway already in place. Metal roof decking covers two sections next to those panels, and a scaffold stair tower runs up between them. Behind the roofed sections, two sets of curved steel arches stand side by side, framed by gray steel platforms. Those arches trace a vaulted ceiling inside the building. Red crawler cranes and a tall lattice crane are working the site, which sits on former parking lot land beside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
Here is why this update matters more than most. Track on supports is the point where a construction site starts to look like a ride. It is also a view with an expiration date. This coaster is fully indoors, and with wall panels and roofing going on, each week closes off a little more of what cameras can see from above. If you like watching how a coaster comes together, these are the photos to study.
None of this changes the timeline. Disney confirmed at D23 in August that Monstropolis will open in phases, a plan we covered when the scaffolding came down at the Glob Theater. Phase one opens in 2027 with Welcome to Monstropolis at the Glob Theater, Harryhausen’s, Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza, the Monsters University Alumni Club and the Scareporium shop. The coaster is not part of phase one, and Disney has not revealed an opening date for it. For the story behind the land, our breakdown of Disney’s official Monstropolis details covers H.U.M.A.N. Day and how humans end up invited into the city.
