Walls Up on Main Street Railroad Station in the Magic Kingdom

Walls Up on Main Street Railroad Station in the Magic Kingdom. With the holiday season and the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend behind us, the massive crowds have begun to dissipate, ushering in a new year. January typically sees lower visitor numbers at Disney, allowing for more extensive maintenance work. While maintenance occurs year-round, this period provides an opportunity to focus on high-traffic areas and implement more significant construction projects, often involving the erection of temporary walls to facilitate the work.

Main Street Railroad Station Platform’s central staircase is under refurbishment and walls surround the central section. Blocking off the stairs and central area on the upstairs section. The walls only block the stairs on both lower and upper levels. In the image below you can also see Disney has left enough room for guests to still get the amazing down Main Street USA photos, or stand and watch the Cavalcades and parades pass by.

No disruption of the Walt Disney Railroad is expected. There is no word on what exactly is being worked on or how long the walls will be up. Do not expect this construction to last very long. Also, as of yesterday, Disney has removed the Christmas Tree and all the holiday decorations. The Park looked beautiful when we were visiting yesterday.

Main Street Railroad construction joins a long list of refurbishments happening at Magic Kingdom now. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is down for over a year, Astro Orbiter is down until the summer of 2025, The Emporium is cut in half by walls right now, plus the construction of the two new lounges. Pirates lounge in Adventureland and the new DVC lounge in Frontierland.

Walt’s Lifelong Passion: A noted train enthusiast, Walt Disney built his very first railroad in his backyard. The Carolwood Pacific Railroad, a 1/8-scale train, debuted in 1950 and featured a custom-built, steam-powered locomotive that encircled his property.

Delighted with his miniature backyard railroad, Walt decided to share his love of trains with the whole world. The result was the Santa Fe & Disneyland Railroad, a favorite of Guests since the park opened in 1955.
