The Muppet Christmas Carol is back, this time as Walmart’s 2026 holiday ad campaign. Walmart released “A Who Knew Carol” on Monday, October 26, a video just over two minutes long made with Disney and The Muppets Studio. Walton Goggins plays Ebenezer Scrooge, Stephanie Beatriz plays his niece, and Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, Rizzo the Rat and Pepé the King Prawn all return to the snowy streets of the 1992 movie. It comes just weeks after Fall Out Boy’s cover of “It Feels Like Christmas” from the film went to every streaming service.
It is a new take on the classic. Scrooge is still the biggest holiday grump in town, and Walmart says the idea is that even he can be surprised by its gifts and deals. More videos and social posts will follow all season.
We watched the full video, and it is packed with callbacks. If you love the movie, watch for these: It starts with “A New Carol Begins” over the rooftops, then drops you onto a snowy street full of Muppets, just like the start of the movie. Gonzo and Rizzo are back. Goggins gets to throw open Scrooge’s window and yell down at the street. In the key art, Fozzie has Fozziwig’s white wig on again and Robin is dressed as Tiny Tim. And stay until the very end. Statler and Waldorf show up as the Marley ghosts, chains and all, the same parts they played in 1992.
In the book and the movie, Scrooge has a nephew named Fred. In Walmart’s version, Stephanie Beatriz plays his niece.
The Muppet Christmas Carol came out in 1992 with Michael Caine as Scrooge and Kermit as Bob Cratchit. It streams on Disney+, and fans watch it every December.
The ad kicks off three sales. Early Black Friday Deals run November 12 to 15, Black Friday Deals run November 23 to 29, and Cyber Monday deals run November 30 to December 2. Check out their online shop for The Muppets Christmas Carol 2026 collection.
This feels like the real Muppet Christmas Carol, not just a commercial with Muppets in it. Statler and Waldorf’s ghosts at the end are a perfect touch. We would watch a full special.Disney Store’s Muppet Christmas Carol collection arrived October 19, and it matches the ad. Statler and Waldorf come as the glowing Marley ghosts in chains, Kermit is Bob Cratchit and Miss Piggy is Emily Cratchit. The mini plush are $14.99 each, and there are ornaments of Gonzo as Charles Dickens, Rizzo and Robin as Tiny Tim.
