Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez are teaming up for Illumination’s new animated alien comedy “Not Alone,” with Chalamet making his animation debut in theaters April 2027.

Chalamet voices Joe, described as an introverted rocket mechanic living a quiet life alone. Gomez plays Fran, a brilliant astro-botanist developing the world’s first plant-fueled rocket. When the two are brought together to prepare for the rocket’s inaugural launch, sparks fly immediately, though neither is particularly good at romance.
Things get complicated when three tiny, unruly aliens named Dunk, Welly, and Shirm take refuge in Joe’s home. The trio is on the run from Zandro, a zealous but inept interplanetary law enforcement officer, and they determine that Fran’s rocket may be their only way home. The first poster shows Joe and Fran standing together beneath a starry sky, with the three aliens nestled into the film’s title treatment above them.
Not Alone arrives at a strong moment for Illumination. The studio is releasing Minions & Monsters in theaters July 1, and its Super Mario Galaxy Movie earlier this year became one of the biggest animated box office successes of 2026.
