What’s in the Gatto Teaser Trailer

The “Ciao Gatto” teaser centers on a sharp, funny interrogation scene featuring the film’s two newly announced characters. Ruffalo voices Nero, the scrappy black cat at the heart of the story. Fishburne voices Rocco, the ruthless feline mob boss who holds Nero’s debt. The dynamic between the two comes through immediately, even in this brief tease.

The Cast

Mark Ruffalo — known for “Poor Things,” “The Avengers,” “Spotlight,” and “Foxcatcher” — brings Nero to life. Laurence Fishburne — iconic from “The Matrix” trilogy, “Boyz n the Hood,” and “What’s Love Got to Do with It” — plays the villainous Rocco. It’s a pairing that feels Pixar: unexpected on paper, unmistakably, immediately right once you hear it.

The Story

Set in Venice, Italy, “Gatto” follows Nero, a black cat who has spent years navigating the canal-ridden, superstition-soaked city. Despite his mastery of street life, Nero begins to question whether he’s lived the right lives. Indebted to Rocco’s feline mob operation, he finds himself forced into a surprising and unlikely friendship — one that may finally give him a sense of purpose. Unless Venice gets the better of him first.

We covered the original announcement of “Gatto” last June when it debuted at Annecy, where it earned one of the most enthusiastic crowd reactions of the festival. The film comes from director Enrico Casarosa, who previously brought us “Luca,” so the Italian setting and deeply personal emotional storytelling make complete sense for where this film is heading.

Our Take

This teaser does exactly what a great Pixar first-look should do: it makes you laugh, it gives you just enough to understand the world, and it leaves you wanting the whole movie right now. Ruffalo and Fishburne are genuinely inspired casting. Nero sounds like a character Ruffalo was born to play — world-weary but secretly soft. And Fishburne as a mob boss cat? That’s the kind of Pixar swing that becomes legendary. March 2027 cannot come fast enough. Join the Realm at fantasylandnews.com/the-realm.
