The Walt Disney Studios courtyard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios opened May 26, 2026, and Disney has now released the official map guide for The Magic of Disney Animation, packed with dozens of characters from across the history of Walt Disney Animation Studios.

We covered the Olaf Draws! experience and the full scope of The Magic of Disney Animation back in February when Disney first announced the project. Since then, Disney has dropped new details alongside the courtyard’s opening, and the newly released map guide is the clearest picture yet of what guests will find inside and around the building when the full attraction opens in late summer 2026.
What’s New From Disney Today
The courtyard transformation opened May 26 and is now reimagined as “The Walt Disney Studios,” drawing from the architecture and atmosphere of the real Burbank studio lot. That includes outdoor spaces designed for families to explore, relax, and snack under trees, with Disney characters potentially spotted playing in the branches or around the grounds.
Disney has confirmed that “Off the Page!” will feature specific character meet-and-greet assignments tied to departments of the animation process. Mulan will be found in the Story department in front of an oversized storyboard panel, and Rapunzel will greet guests in the Layout department against a setting inspired by the classic multiplane camera. Chip n’ Dale are assigned to Hand-Drawn Animation, Donald and Daisy to CG Animation, Goofy to Lighting, and Stitch to Effects.
The enchanted art gallery is now confirmed as part of the experience, described as a curated space where beloved Disney Animation characters appear in artwork that can spring to life with exclusive animations created specifically for the attraction.
The Once Upon a Studio Theater will screen the Emmy Award-winning short film with enhanced effects, and characters will appear within artwork along the theater walls to place guests inside the story.
The “Drawn to Wonderland” playground inside the building is confirmed to include an oversized flower garden with musical instruments, a Mad Tea Party playset, and a Tulgey Wood exploration area, all inspired by Mary Blair’s original concept art for Alice in Wonderland. Disney describes the play area as designed for children ages 6 months to 5 years.
The full Magic of Disney Animation experience, including Olaf Draws! and all interior spaces, remains on track for late summer 2026.

One More Character Worth a Double-Take

Sharp-eyed fans will want to look closely at the directional fork sign in the center of the map. Tucked right into the signage is what appears to be Iliana, the lead character from Disney’s upcoming animated film Hexed. Her dark hair and distinctive style are a dead giveaway. Disney quietly slipped her into the map alongside more than a century of animation history, which is a pretty bold statement about how much confidence the studio has in that film. If you blink, you miss her entirely. Now you know where to look.
Our Take
This map is the single best argument Disney has made for why The Magic of Disney Animation is going to be a must-do at Hollywood Studios. Looking at just how many films and eras are represented, from Snow White through Wish and even a peek at what is coming next with Hexed, makes it clear this is not a nostalgia grab for any one generation. It is genuinely designed for every family member to find their favorite. Greg’s word to a friend: go in with time to spare and plan to move through slowly.
