Regal Cineworld has launched the first ChatGPT app for moviegoing in the United States, giving moviegoers the ability to search for showtimes, get personalized movie recommendations, and buy tickets directly through a ChatGPT conversation. The app was developed with The Boxoffice Company and is live now across Regal’s 5,386 screens nationwide.

How It Works
Moviegoers can open ChatGPT and ask questions like “@Regal, what’s playing this weekend?” or “@Regal, what are the showtimes for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie today?” The app returns movie information, including poster, ratings, running time, and premium format availability, alongside showtimes. Clicking on a showtime redirects the user to the Regal website to complete their ticket purchase.
The goal is to shorten the path from movie discovery to ticket purchase. Instead of opening a separate app or website to find what is playing, moviegoers who are already using ChatGPT can search, find, and buy in the same conversation.
What Regal and Its Partners Said
“Regal is excited to partner with The Boxoffice Company to introduce the first movie ticketing app on ChatGPT, the world’s most popular and widely used AI chatbot, to improve the moviegoer journey,” said Kelly Dowdy, Chief Digital and Technology Officer at Regal Cineworld. “Modern moviegoers are typically early adopters of novel technology, so we are consistently innovating and enhancing our digital services, theatres, premium formats, and moviegoer conveniences to create extraordinary experiences for our guests on every visit.”
The Boxoffice Company President and CEO, Stan Ruszkowski, said the app is the most significant move the company has made in its mission to simplify the customer journey. “Regal Cineworld has always been an industry leader in innovative technology, and together we’ve built the first experience that allows Regal to turn AI conversations into movie tickets.”
Marine Suttle, Managing Director of The Boxoffice Company, described the app as a conversion commerce tool built on real-time showtime data. “Our goal is to transform a conversational interface into a conversion commerce tool. This is a logical extension of our Boost platform, ensuring that every AI-driven recommendation is backed by real-time, accurate data.”

Why This Matters for Moviegoers
ChatGPT now has over one billion monthly visits in the United States alone, making it one of the most used digital tools in the country. Putting Regal’s showtimes directly inside that interface puts the chain in front of moviegoers at the moment they are already searching for something to do — before they ever open a separate ticketing app. For a theater chain competing with streaming and with other chains for weekend attendance, being the first to meet audiences inside an AI chatbot is a genuine first-mover advantage.
