Mario is set to make a triumphant return to the skies of Manhattan. Nintendo of America and Macy’s announced today that a massive, new Mario balloon will debut in the 99th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday, November 27.
The high-flying appearance celebrates the 40th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros. game, which launched in 1985.
The new balloon, created by Macy’s Parade Studio in partnership with Nintendo, depicts Mario in a flying pose inspired by the Super Mario Galaxy game. Measuring over 51 feet long and 43 feet tall, the iconic character will be clad in his classic red cap and blue overalls.
“Having Mario join this iconic holiday tradition is an incredible way to honor the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros.,” said Devon Pritchard, EVP at Nintendo of America.
The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will air on NBC and stream on Peacock on Thursday, November 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. ET.
