Celebrate Disneyland’s 70th & Dole Whip Day with DIY Pineapple Stuffed Dole Whip! While Dole x Stitch “Spirit of ‘Ohana” is ongoing, Dole is celebrating Disneyland’s 70th with a new DIY recipe. Dole and Disney are synonymous. As someone who is at Walt Disney World 5 days a week, I can tell you personally that a Disney trip isn’t the same without visiting Aloha Isle and getting the OG Dole Whip! Now, you can celebrate Disney and the Disneyland 70th anniversary at home with the new DIY Pineapple Stuffed Dole Whip.
Before Dole Food Company changed frozen desserts and theme park snacking forever with the introduction of the Dole Whip® at Disneyland and Walt Disney World in the 1980s, guests waiting for Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room in Adventureland enjoyed DOLE® Pineapple Juice and fresh-cut DOLE® Pineapple Spears.
Now, more than four decades later, in celebration of Dole Whip Day on July 17, the fresh produce leader has teamed up with Ninja to create an official, naturally sweet new DIY version of the iconic treat that pays homage to both the Dole Whip®’soriginal inspiration and the 70th anniversary of Disneyland that falls on the same day.
The new DIY Pineapple Stuffed Dole Whip takes Dole’s DIY Dole Whip® a few steps forward by combining a Ninja Swirl™ by CREAMi® and whole DOLE® Pineapple to create a sweet pineapple puree (curd) filling that elevates the Whip taste experience according to recipe developer Melanie Marcus, MA, RD, Dole’s nutrition, wellness, and communications manager.
“One great thing about the Dole Whip® has always been the infinite number of variations that are possible. From new flavors and ingredients to (now) new fillings at the core, we can tailor the Whip to any occasion,” Marcus said. “Our naturally sweet pineapple curd is piped into the center of the final Dole Whip® mix and becomes an absolute game-changer that we think even Dole Whip® purists will love.”
“Get ready to swirl, pipe, and wow your taste buds right in your own home!” she said.
As part of the recipe-development partnership, Ninja is offering insider tips on making Dole Whip® at home using its Ninja Swirl™, which include freezing the Whip mixture for 24 hours in advance, the best machine settings for soft serve, and tricks for dispensing the final treat into a bowl or cone to get that classic Dole Whip® swirl.
Dole’s relationship with Disney started with the produce leader’s sponsorship of the Enchanted Tiki Room at Disneyland in 1976, which led to a similar arrangement at the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World several years later. The Dole Whip® came along in 1984. Dole Packaged Foods continues the in-park sponsorship today, while Dole Food Company is continuously developing new Dole Whip® recipes and ways to enjoy the iconic treat at home.
Marcus and her team have created a total of 13 fruit-based DIY Dole Whip® variations over the years, ranging from the Blue Hawaiian Dole Whip® and Mint Green Dole Whip® to seasonal favorites Pumpkin Spice-Sweet Potato Dole Whip® and Twisted Candy Cane Dole Whip®. All are posted on the Dole Whip® Wonderland page.
Said Marcus: “The fact that Dole Whip Day falls on the same day as the 70th birthday of Disneyland, where the Dole/Disney relationship began almost 50 years ago, is a very happy coincidence for all of us at Dole.”

- Equipment Needed: Small saucepan; Whisk; Ninja Swirl™ by CREAMi®; Blender
Ingredients:
For the Pineapple Curd:
- 1½ cups very ripe pineapple chunks (blended to make ~1 cup purée)
- 2 tsp cornstarch
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- Zest of one lemon
- Pinch of salt
For the Dole Whip®:
- 1½ cups ripe DOLE® pineapple, chopped
- 1 ripe DOLE® Banana
- 2-1/2 teaspoons powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened coconut milk
- 1 teaspoon lime juice
To Make the Pineapple Curd:
- Blend the pineapple chunks into a smooth purée.
- Add the cornstarch, lemon juice, and salt to the blender; blend again until fully
combined and no lumps remain. - Pour the purée into a small saucepan and cook over medium heat, whisking
constantly, until starting to thicken, about 3 minutes. You don’t want the curd
too thick, so you can still swirl it into the cake. - Stir in lemon zest and a pinch of salt and let cool.
- Once cool, transfer to a piping bag with a round tip, or to a resealable plastic bag.
To Make the Dole Whip®
- Combine all ingredients in a Ninja Swirl™ by CREAMi® (or blender or food processor). Cover; blend until smooth, about 2-3 minutes.
- Make sure the pint base is closed. Fill an empty Swirl Pint to the MAX FILL. Place the storage lid on the pint and freeze for 24 hours.
- Remove pint from freezer and remove lid from pint. Place the Swirl Pint in the outer bowl, install the Creamerizer™ Paddle onto the outer bowl lid, and lock the lid assembly on the outer bowl. Slide the bowl assembly onto the motor base and twist the handle right to raise the platform and lock it in place.
- Select SOFT SERVE, then FRUIT WHIP.
- When processing is complete, hold the release button to the left of the outer bowl, twist bowl handle, then pull away from unit to remove the pint from outer bowl.
- Install dispense lid and install pint in unit, aligning the blue tabs. Twist white pint base to the OPEN position. Pull handle to dispense into a bowl or cone. Be sure to leave room in center of swirl to allow for pineapple curd to be piped inside.
- Serve immediately.
