The Boneyard Fossil Fun Site is Permanently Closing September 2nd 2025 at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The Boneyard children’s playground at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Dinoland USA is closing. The last day to enjoy playing in the excavation area will be September 1st, 2025, and The Boneyard will not reopen as of September 2nd, 2025. A new playground is coming and will be located closer to the new Indiana Jones attraction that DINOSAUR! is being rethemed into. Expect the new playground to open with Tropical Americas in 2027.

In its place will be a new giant working carousel featuring favorite animals from Disney stories: The new town, Esperanza, will be situated in the Tropical Americas land coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The town features classic Spanish-style architecture in the heart of the rainforest and a carousel featuring the resident wood carver’s favorite animals.

From the Official Walt Disney World Website:

The last day to experience The Boneyard is September 1. The attraction will close permanently on September 2 to make way for Tropical Americas. Read the Disney Parks Blog to learn more.

The Boneyard: Roam an open-air space—designed to look like a dinosaur dig—where young paleontologists can play.

A world of prehistoric marvels awaits! Kids ages 10 and under are invited to clamber across rope bridges, climb through mysterious caves, and hurl down twisting slides. At the dig site, help excavate fossils from a Triceratops and a Tyrannosaurus Rex. Discover lots more dino-sized surprises as you have a blast digging up the past. Parents of busy explorers can enjoy a shaded seating area at the dig site, where large fans help cool things down.
