Judy & Nick’s New Adventures: “Zootopia 2” Plot & Characters Revealed. Walt Disney Animation continues the story of Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps in the 2025 follow-up to Disney Animation Studios’ 2016 hit Zootopia. While we have had a quick plot outline, Disney has not released much information. Now thanks to Disney Media Japan we have a full plot outline, and new outfits, and to celebrate the ‘Year of the Snake’, a new character named Gary the Snake.
In Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Zootopia 2,” detectives Judy Hopps (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (voiced by Jason Bateman) find themselves on the twisting trail of a mysterious reptile who arrives in Zootopia and turns the mammal metropolis upside down.
Zootopia 2 is due in theaters in the States on November 26, 2025. Oscar® winners Jared Bush (co-director/co-writer “Zootopia,” director/co-writer “Encanto”) and Byron Howard (director “Zootopia,” director “Encanto”) are directing; Bush is writing the script; Yvett Merino (Oscar-winning producer “Encanto”) produces. “Zootopia 2” hits theaters in Nov. 26, 2025.
To commemorate the release in Japan, the original Japanese visual has also been released. It shows the first appearance of the new character, Gary the Snake, who symbolizes the year 2025, the Year of the Snake.
Zootopia, released in 2016 by Disney Animation Studios, has spun stories loved by people all over the world across generations, won an Academy Award® and a Golden Globe Award, and was the first Disney animation film to exceed $1 billion in global box office revenue since Frozen. It also recorded a social phenomenon-like hit in Japan, grossing over 7.6 billion yen, creating a Zootopia whirlwind around the world.
The sequel, Zootopia 2, is finally scheduled to be released in Japan in the winter of 2025! To commemorate the release in Japan, the original Japanese visual has also been released, showing the first appearance of the new character, Gary the snake, who symbolizes the year 2025, the Year of the Snake.
The buddy duo of Judy, a rabbit police officer who is always positive and never gives up on her dreams, and Nick, a cool fox con man who has a sarcastic side, captured the hearts of many women, and despite the cute and fluffy appearance of the animals, the story, which contains a deep message about “discrimination and prejudice,” resonated with many adults as well, making the previous film, “Zootopia,” a huge hit with surprisingly high word-of-mouth reviews.
In this sequel, Nick has successfully graduated from the police academy and is now a police officer, and Judy once again team up to tackle a new mystery in Zootopia. Judy and Nick decide to go undercover to search for wanted criminal Gary the Snake. They go undercover in a new area of the city, where their bond will be tested more than ever. Judy and Nick then find themselves tackling a huge mystery surrounding the “dark past” of Zootopia, hidden by Gary the snake and the reptiles…
The newly released original Japanese visual, produced to commemorate the “Year of the Snake” in 2025, features Nick, dressed in a way that is not typical of a detective, and Judy, a consistently excellent student, in their new uniforms in the dazzling animal paradise “Zootopia.” This time, the pair attempt an undercover investigation to investigate a new mystery, and the wanted criminal they are being pursued by is a new character, a snake named Gary.
Although he is poisonous, he is cheerful and talkative, just as his appearance suggests. He will be an important character who will lead Judy and Nick to a new mystery hidden in “Zootopia.” A new town where reptiles like Gary live will also be introduced, and it seems that their “dark past in Zootopia” will be the key to the story.
The film is directed by Jared Bush, who co-directed and wrote the previous film and is now the new Chief Creative Officer of Disney Animation Studios, teaming up with Byron Howard, who will be continuing on from the previous film!
Since its theatrical release in 2016, “Zootopia” has captivated the world in an instant and remains popular to this day.
