Disney has teamed up with Swedish designer Gustaf Westman on a 35-piece Mickey & Friends collection, and the first three pieces are here: a €110 Mickey tumbler, a €68 Mickey cup and saucer, and a black leather Mickey Mouse sofa for €9,250. At today’s exchange rate, that works out to about $123, $76 and $10,340. Yes, the sofa.

If you have never heard of Gustaf Westman, congratulations on your normal home. The Stockholm designer opened his studio in 2020 and became a favorite of people who describe their apartments as “maximalist.” His work is all glossy color and puffy, cartoon-inflated shapes. His famous Curvy Mirror lists for 24,000 Swedish kronor on his site. That sounds made up, but it works out to about $2,400 for a mirror. He has also worked with Ikea and Nike, so he does know how to make things regular people can buy.

Now he has turned that look on Mickey. The tumbler is his signature Chunky Tumbler dressed as the Mouse, with ears on the lid, red shorts with white buttons on the base and a yellow coaster standing in for Mickey’s shoes. Westman calls it his favorite piece and says you can look at it for one second and totally understand it. He is right. It is a cup that looks like Mickey Mouse. Disney has been selling those for decades, at a fraction of the price, with no design story attached.

The €68 cup, about $76, is black ceramic and sits on a saucer shaped like Mickey’s head, for people whose espresso deserves ears. Then there is the sofa, a bulbous black leather Mickey silhouette that runs about $10,340 and is part of a made-to-order furniture line. Made to order is a polite way of saying nobody builds one until you commit. For that money, you could take your family to Walt Disney World and still come home to a regular couch.

The collection launches the way luxury collections do, with pop-ups in Paris from October 30 to November 1, Tokyo from November 6 to 8 and New York from November 13 to 15. The online launch follows on November 15 at gustafwestman.com, with some pieces also headed to Disneyland Paris. There is no Orlando stop, which tells you exactly who this is for. Disney’s own post promises “you’ve never seen Mickey & Friends quite like this,” and on that point, Disney is correct.

To be fair to Westman, he is a lifelong Disney fan who took a research trip to Disneyland Paris before designing a single piece, and the tumbler is a clever bit of design. The rest of the 35 pieces, which include apparel, accessories and more furniture, will be revealed through October. If you already own a Curvy Mirror and need Mickey to match, your November is booked. Everyone else can find plenty of Disney merchandise that fits in a normal kitchen on our Disney Consumer Products page, including the Holiday Ever After kitchen collection from Zrike Brands.
