Alien Swirling Saucers: Lilypad’s Jams officially debuted today, Friday, September 25, at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, bringing the frog-shaped smart tablet from Toy Story 5 to Toy Story Land as the ride’s new DJ. The standby wait on opening morning was five minutes.
Disney announced a frog DJ. The frog showed up. Toy Story Land shrugged. The posted wait read 5 minutes a little after 9 a.m. and hit a whopping 10 at another point during our visit. No crowd, no fuss.
Lilypad also has a small spelling problem. One of the screens we caught was supposed to say hello in Japanese, but it read こんにうは instead of こんにちは. The fourth character should be ち, not う, so instead of “konnichiwa,” Lilypad is technically greeting guests with “konniuha.” For a smart tablet that connects to the internet to remix music, you’d think spell check came standard.
The marquee now carries a string of oversized toy beads spelling out LILYPAD’S JAMS, led by a smiling frog bead. Inside, the update is all about the music. Disney has named five songs from the lineup so far, including reimagined versions of “You’ve Got a Friend in Me,” “We Belong Together,” and “I Can’t Let You Throw Yourself Away,” plus new originals “Pizza Planet Promo” and “Spin It Back, Lilypad.” We heard three of the five. Here’s the honest version. This is a new soundtrack on a family spinner that opened in 2018, so nobody was going to camp out for it. The upside is the line. A brand-new overlay with a five-minute wait is rare at Hollywood Studios, so walk on this weekend and hear it before anyone notices. Say hi to Lilypad while you’re there, in whatever language she spells it correctly.
