Hallmark Channel closed its June Summer Nights event last night with A Castle of Our Own starring Brennan Elliott and Erica Cerra as Adam and Marley. The story revolves around Marley, an overworked architect, who takes an unexpected summer trip, a sandcastle contest, and a contractor, Adam, to help her reconnect with her daughter, rediscover joy, and find love she never saw coming.
This was an absolute dream pairing for me. Brennan Elliott and Erica Cerra sparked chemistry from the moment they met. The banter between them was effortless and believable. Erica Cerra and Sarah Sheehan, who plays her daughter Lily, similarly had a great rapport.

Erica and Brennan brought out the best in each other from the first scene to the last. This is a perfect cozy summer weekend watch. Erica brings a refreshing realness to her character. You believe the overworked and overachieving mom who wants to unplug and be present for her daughter and then Adam. Brennan always has an easy way about him and is great with comedic timing and warmth.

This definitely felt like a more mature Hallmark movie rather than the hot or super meetcute movies. The network paired two seasoned talents amidst gorgeous backdrops of the beach and the sandcastle competition. There were colorful townsfolk amidst the community event of the sandcastle competition. The running gag of “thanks, Gordo” from Adam to his antagonist was amusing to me.

This marks the first movie for Brennan Elliott since the passing of his wife, Camilla Row, who passed away following a battle with cancer. Brennan spoke to PEOPLE about his grief journey and what it’s like on this side of it. While fans have always loved his easy banter and thoughtful characters, he was dealing with so much and still is. He talks about how getting to do this film has helped him. According to PEOPLE, His character, Adam, is a man who feels stuck in place after his wife left him while he was building their dream home. “I was stuck also. It’s tough to move forward when certain things happen to you, but you’ve got to keep plugging away. I feel like this is the next chapter of my life.”

Brennan also spoke about this on his Instagram, “This past year has taught me that grief doesn’t disappear, it simply becomes part of who you are. But I’ve also learned that healing isn’t about leaving someone behind. It’s about finding the courage to laugh again, to feel connected again, and to embrace joy without guilt. The love and memories never leave us; they walk beside us, making us stronger, more compassionate, and, for me, a more present actor and storyteller.
If you’re carrying the loss of someone you love, I hope you know this: it’s okay to smile again. It’s okay to find happiness. That doesn’t diminish your love for them; it honors the life and love you shared, while making every new moment of joy even more meaningful.
I’m incredibly proud of A Castle of Our Own and everyone who poured their hearts into bringing this story to life.”
