Twenty-five years in, and Shrek is still finding new ways to make fans feel things — and now it’s doing it on vinyl. Varèse Sarabande and Craft Recordings have announced a brand-new picture disc release of Harry Gregson-Williams and John Powell’s beloved score for the Academy Award-winning animated classic, arriving August 28 and available for pre-order now. A newly reissued CD edition drops alongside it, and the score is already streaming now across all major digital platforms for anyone who needs to start revisiting it immediately.

The Collector’s Edition Picture Disc
The picture disc is a wide release and features newly designed character artwork across both sides, with the film’s main cast of protagonists on Side A and Shrek and Fiona on Side B. Barnes & Noble is getting an exclusive variant with alternate film imagery, which is worth noting for collectors who want something a little different on the shelf. The track spread across both sides runs the full arc of the film, from “Fairytale” through “Transformation / The End,” and the CD edition collects all 27 tracks in one place.
The timing is no accident. Universal Pictures is bringing Shrek back to theaters for a special 25th anniversary screening run beginning May 15, and the combination of the theatrical return and this vinyl announcement is a full-on Shrek moment right now. If you’ve already grabbed the Shrek 25th Anniversary Outhouse Popcorn Collectible at AMC, this record is the obvious next piece for the collection. Check Fandango or your local cinema listings for screening details near you.
The score itself has earned this treatment. Gregson-Williams and Powell had to walk a precise line between emotional sincerity and irreverence throughout the film, and the result is music that holds up across 25 years in a way that few animated scores do. Co-director Vicky Jenson described their themes as heartbreakingly beautiful, and co-director Andrew Adamson credited the composers with matching the film’s eccentric spirit note for note. That’s the kind of legacy that earns a picture disc.

Where to Stream the Shrek Score
The reissued Shrek score is available now on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. If you want to get acquainted with the full score before the vinyl arrives in August, now is the time to queue it up.
