The official trailer for “Sofia the First: Royal Magic” dropped today and it confirms Rapunzel will make a special appearance in the very first episode of the series, which premieres Monday, May 25, on Disney Jr. at 7:00 a.m. EDT/PDT and streams on Disney+ the following day, Tuesday, May 26.

Disney revealed the trailer alongside news that a companion short-form series, “Sofia the First: Magical Friends,” is already available now on the Disney Jr. channel, Disney+, and the Disney Jr. YouTube channel.

Rapunzel Visits Sofia in the Premiere

Of the six princess guest stars confirmed for the series, Rapunzel is the one showing up first. Her appearance in episode one sets the tone for what “Sofia the First: Royal Magic” is doing structurally. The series follows Sofia as she attends the Charmswell School for Royal Magic, where she discovers she is the most magical princess in the realm and must learn to master her powers while building new friendships. Having a princess guest arrive in the premiere makes the stakes feel immediate rather than building slowly over episodes.

The trailer gives the first real look at the Charmswell School setting, which is the new world this series is built around. The original “Sofia the First” used visiting princesses as teaching moments across its run, and this series continues that approach with a new school framework to hang each lesson on.

Watch the New “Sofia the First: Magical Friends” Shorts Now

While the main series is still a few weeks out, “Sofia the First: Magical Friends” is streaming right now. The short-form series serves as an introduction to the Charmswell School and the new characters Sofia will be spending her time with. Those characters include Princess Layla, Princess Camila, and Prince Zane, along with a school castle pet named Pepper the Puppercorn.

The shorts are available on the Disney Jr. channel, Disney+, and the Disney Jr. YouTube channel. For anyone with a young fan at home who cannot wait until May 25, these are worth pulling up now.

Yvette Nicole Brown Joins the Voice Cast as a Teacher

Disney also confirmed today that Yvette Nicole Brown voices one of Sofia’s new teachers at Charmswell School. Brown is also Vice Chair of the DonorsChoose Board, which connects to a broader campaign Disney is running around the series. “Sofia the First: Royal Magic” is part of Disney’s 2026 Teacher Appreciation Week initiative with DonorsChoose, with Brown helping kick off the campaign alongside the trailer release.

The May 25 Disney Jr. premiere will be followed by the first eight episodes arriving on Disney+ on May 26 in the U.S. and select international markets. The series will continue to roll out globally throughout 2026.

We have been covering “Sofia the First: Royal Magic” since Disney released the first teaser in February and through the full guest star announcement that confirmed Moana, Rapunzel, Jasmine, Cinderella, Aurora, and Elena of Avalor for the season. The original “Sofia the First” premiered in 2012, has generated over $1 billion in retail sales, and has logged more than 3 billion hours of viewing since launch. This new series is built on that foundation with a new school setting and a new chapter for the character.
