Tonight, Monday, December 8, ESPN, Disney, Pixar, and the National Football League will present Monsters Funday Football, a real-time, animated alternate presentation of the Monday Night Football game featuring the defending Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles at the Los Angeles Chargers.
This season’s immersive Funday Football experience will transport fans to Monstropolis for ESPN’s Week 14 MNF matchup. The Eagles, currently sitting with a stellar 9-3 record, will clash with the Chargers, who hold a 5-7 record, inside the iconic Monsters, Inc. building. This marks the third consecutive season ESPN, Disney+, and the NFL have presented a Funday Football telecast, continuing a unique tradition that began with Toy Story Funday Football.
Welcome to the Cheer Floor: Mike & Sulley’s Football Debut
Beloved Disney Legends Mike Wazowski and James P. “Sulley” Sullivan (voiced by Billy Crystal and John Goodman) will make their gridiron debut, joining the telecast as animated team ambassadors.
- Sulley will be supporting the Los Angeles Chargers.
- Mike Wazowski will cheer on the Philadelphia Eagles, led by star quarterback Jalen Hurts, who famously came to Walt Disney World for the Super Bowl parade after the Eagles’ recent championship win.
The football action will unfold on the Cheer Floor—a reimagined version of the film’s famed Scare Floor—adorned with a full-length football field filled with thousands of cheering monsters.
Real-Time Animation and Cheer Canisters
During Monsters Funday Football, every Eagles and Chargers player will appear as a motion-enabled, animated version of themselves. This is brought to life using cutting-edge technology, including NFL Next Gen Stats, Sony’s Beyond Sports, and Sony’s Hawk-Eye Innovations optical tracking, which mirrors the live action from SoFi Stadium in real time within the Monstropolis environment.
The stakes are different in Monstropolis: Mike and Sulley will compete for Cheer Canisters (a rebrand of the classic Scream Canisters), storing monster cheers instead of screams. The night will end with both a game winner and a Cheer Champion!

- Roz will serve as the game’s animated sideline reporter.
- The Child Detection Agency (CDA) will be in attendance to monitor the crowd and the game.
- The iconic floating Monsters, Inc. bedroom doors will hover above the field, showing fans viewing the game from their bedrooms all over the world.

This season’s telecast is expanding its reach, available for the first time on ESPN2, Disney Channel, Disney XD, and the new ESPN App, while continuing to stream on Disney+ and (on mobile) NFL+. Both presentations begin tonight at 8 p.m. ET. The Monsters Funday Football alternate broadcast follows the success of The Simpsons Funday Football in December 2024 and Toy Story Funday Football in October 2023.
