A Danish Christmas, the new Hallmark Channel Christmas movie starring Emilie Ullerup and Corey Sevier, premieres tonight, Sunday, November 1, at 8 p.m. ET to close out week three of Countdown to Christmas 2026, and it streams tomorrow on Hallmark+. Filmed in Copenhagen, it is a full-on love project for Ullerup, who was born there.
Week three of Countdown to Christmas wraps up, and we start November with a trip to Denmark. A Danish Christmas follows Who’s Coming for Christmas? on Friday and Adopting St. Nick on Saturday. You can follow all the Hallmark Channel Countdown to Christmas news in one place
What Happens in A Danish Christmas?
Ullerup plays Marie, a hotel tech executive living in Chicago who goes home to Copenhagen for the holidays and puts herself to work at her family’s inn. When Ryan Miller, played by Sevier, checks in, a mix-up convinces Marie he is a travel writer. She sets out to make his stay perfect, including the Christmas tour he is expecting. The catch is that the Andersen Inn has not offered that tour since her father passed, so she scrambles to put one together.
Then Marie’s mom tells her she plans to sell the inn after the New Year. A good story could bring in business and change her mom’s mind, so Marie goes all in. She takes Ryan around Copenhagen and works overtime to create hygge at the inn, and both efforts end in a few festive fiascos. Along the way, the two start to feel like more than innkeeper and guest. When the real journalist named Ryan Miller shows up, they realize the mistake, and Marie learns that warmth, connection and maybe romance happen on their own and cannot be planned.
This is Emilie Ullerup in her element. She is so proud of her Danish culture, and as a huge fan of Emilie, I can say she positively glows in this movie. She comes alive on screen against the Copenhagen backdrop. Ullerup also executive produced A Danish Christmas, which was filmed in Copenhagen at Christmastime with members of her own family on screen. Look for her husband, Kyle Cassie, to make an appearance.
We just saw Emilie on the Hallmark Christmas Cruise 2026, and she told the crowd this movie let her come home. “I got to bring my family home, I got to put my family in the movie, and do things that I’ve grown up with that nobody ever knows about,” she said.
When she was asked about the Danish traditions in the movie, she started with the tree. “We dance around the Christmas tree,” she said, explaining that everyone holds hands and sings as they go around it. She also shared that Danes celebrate on Christmas Eve. “We do everything on the 24th. I’ve never celebrated on the 25th.” As for the rest of the holiday, she kept it honest. “We drink a lot, but so does everybody. Just different drinks.”
When we had a moment to talk with her on the cruise, she asked what I thought, and I could not say enough about it. I love a Hallmark Christmas destination movie, and I have been a fan of Emilie since watching her as Bree on Chesapeake Shores.
Juliana Wimbles wrote A Danish Christmas from a story by Emilie Ullerup and Linda Carolei. Wimbles, who also wrote Who’s Coming for Christmas?, appears in the movie as Amy. Colin Theys directed. He has directed a number of Hallmark destination movies and has produced plenty of Hallmark movies, including A Biltmore Christmas.
