Who’s Coming for Christmas?, the new Hallmark Channel Christmas movie starring Rhiannon Fish, Jake Foy and Mila Morgan, premieres tonight, Friday, October 30, at 8 p.m. ET to open week three of Countdown to Christmas 2026. It streams tomorrow on Hallmark+, and it is the movie this season that surprised me with happy tears. Countdown to Christmas keeps rolling with week three, and this weekend’s lineup also brings Adopting St. Nick on Saturday and A Danish Christmas on Sunday. I had no idea this one would speak to me the way it did.

Who's Coming for Christmas? Review: Hallmark's Rhiannon Fish Movie Brings Happy Tears

What Happens in Who’s Coming for Christmas?

Fish plays Julie, who has just moved to a new town and is setting up her home with pieces she inherited from her late grandmother. That includes a beautiful dining room table she plans to use on Christmas Eve, when she hosts dinner for the first time. Her guest list is not set yet, but Julie takes a page from her grandmother and has faith that her holiday table for eight will be filled.

Julie’s warm, friendly nature makes her part of the community fast. She makes friends all over town, including her neighbor Mark, played by Foy, and his young daughter Vanessa, played by Morgan. Mark suggests his family could join her, which would make Julie’s dinner for eight come true. Then bad weather keeps them from making the trip, and it looks like a quiet night for just the three of them unless a small Christmas miracle, or a few of them, fills her table.

Rhiannon Fish is perfectly Rhiannon Fish. She is always chipper and sunny, and this is no exception. She makes you root for her. Jake Foy plays opposite her to perfection, and his Mark is an endearing dad who becomes a friend to Julie. Vanessa is a big reader who turns out to be a terrific writer, and she and Julie connect over writing. When Vanessa doubts herself, Julie encourages her. Hallmark fans know Fish from movies like A Picture of Her and A Costa Rican Wedding, and they may know Foy from the series Ride and The Chicken Sisters. Tammy Gillis also stars as Ali.

Julie just wants to fill the other seven seats at her grandmother’s table for Christmas, and I related to that. Growing up, my favorite thing to do on Christmas Eve was go to my aunt’s house and soak up being surrounded by family and holiday merriment. For a few years, my family and I spent Christmas Eve at a friend’s house, and the tradition of gathering spoke to me there too. I understood Julie wanting to carry on her grandmother’s Christmas Eve tradition and fill her table. As a mom, I always want my table full.

Julie spends the days before Christmas meeting and connecting with neighbors, friends, coworkers, library patrons and even delivery workers. Her love of Christmas, reading and writing is contagious. She hangs a sampler she inherited from her grandmother, and its words come back again and again through the movie. “Prepare for what you want and have faith that it will find you.” This movie moved me when I was not expecting it, and I teared up with happy tears at the end.

Who’s Coming for Christmas? was written by Hallmark veteran Juliana Wimbles, who has acted in, written and produced many Hallmark movies. This is not her first Rhiannon Fish movie, either. She also wrote A Machu Picchu Proposal. It is a big weekend for Wimbles, since she also wrote A Danish Christmas, starring Emilie Ullerup and Corey Sevier, which premieres Sunday. David I. Strasser directed Who’s Coming for Christmas?, and he did it beautifully. He also directed Christmas Delivered, the upcoming Countdown to Christmas movie starring Autumn Reeser and Wes Brown.
