Ring-Tailed Lemurs Are Back at Disney’s Animal Kingdom After Habitat Refurbishment

The ring-tailed lemurs are back on display at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and we saw them in their refurbished habitat on Discovery Island on Friday, October 23, 2026. The habitat sits right below the Tree of Life and was behind construction walls for months. It now has new rockwork, a shallow pond and a grassy island with ropes for the lemurs to climb. Find more news from the park in our Animal Kingdom coverage.

Disney did not announce a reopening date. It was first reported that the habitat opened on Wednesday, October 14. Disney never posted a closing date, either. We know that walls have been up for months. Carved, layered rockwork now wraps around a shallow pond and a grassy island, with logs built right into the rock. Ropes stretch across the island, and there are tree stumps and branches to climb. Low glass panels let kids see in, while grown-ups can look over the top.

The lemurs were out and busy during our visit. A group of them sat on the big rocks in the sun, one walked the rocks along the water with its striped tail straight up and another kept watch from behind a tree stump. Ring-tailed lemurs love the sun, so a bright Florida day is a good time to catch them out.

You can find the Ring-Tailed Lemurs at the Tree of Life on Discovery Island. They are actually right next to the Nick & Judy meet/greet. Ring-tailed lemurs come from Madagascar and live in groups led by females. The Disney Conservation Fund supports groups in Madagascar that help protect lemurs and the forests they live in.

This is a small change, but it is a nice one. With the trails around the Tree of Life still closed, it is good to have a reason to stop on Discovery Island again. Bring the kids and give the lemurs a few minutes.
