Disney’s live-action Moana is now streaming on Disney+, starting Wednesday, October 21, 2026, three months after it opened in theaters on July 10. Catherine Laga’aia stars as Moana and Dwayne Johnson is back as Maui in the remake of Disney’s 2016 animated movie. Hamilton director Thomas Kail directed it, and you can watch it with your Disney+ plan.

Laga’aia makes her movie debut as Moana. John Tui plays her dad, Chief Tui, Frankie Adams plays her mom, Sina, and Rena Owen plays Gramma Tala. Jemaine Clement is back as the voice of Tamatoa, the giant singing crab. Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote a new song for the remake called “Along the Way.” Laga’aia and Johnson sing it with Auliʻi Cravalho, the original voice of Moana, who is also an executive producer on the film. The song also has a music video and a behind-the-scenes featurette.
Moana made more than $315 million worldwide in theaters. Critics were tough on it, with a 32% score on Rotten Tomatoes, but moviegoers gave it an A minus CinemaScore. It runs 115 minutes.
Moana had one of the biggest popcorn bucket lineups of the summer, with Cinemark’s light-up Moana bucket and Regal’s wave and canoe buckets. See them all in our Moana popcorn bucket guide, plus the Walmart Moana bucket that came with a Fandango reward.
Our take: Critics and families did not agree on this one. If you skipped it in theaters, Disney+ is the easy way to see who is right. Plan a family movie night and decide for yourself. Find out more on Disney+ and find more Disney+ news.
