Tickets for 20th Century Studios’ Whalefall went on sale today, September 30, and the survival thriller arrives with its own whale-shaped popcorn bucket. Fandango is already selling the Whalebucket Bundle for $49.99, pairing one Whalefall movie ticket with the sperm whale popcorn bucket ahead of the film’s October 16 release, and theater chains are expected to roll out their own announcements soon. Regal has also announced the Whale popcorn bucket will be coming to theaters.

The bucket is a full sculpt of a gray sperm whale, with its big blunt head up front, knobby ridges down its back and a tail fluke at the end. Popcorn goes in through a flip-up hatch on the whale’s side, and a tiny scuba diver figure clings to the outside just below it, a fun nod to the movie’s hero. Based on the first photos, it runs close to two feet long. Capacity has not been announced yet. It is the third big theater collectible reveal this week, following the Rocky Steps popcorn bucket for Rocky 50th Anniversary and the Book Stack popcorn tin for Sense and Sensibility.
For now, the only confirmed way to get the whale is through Fandango, and the bucket ships to your home. Theater chains have not posted their Whalefall concessions yet. One early photo was taken in an auditorium with Regal’s social handle on the pre-show screen, but Regal has not confirmed anything. AMC, Cinemark, Marcus, Harkins, Alamo Drafthouse, Showcase, Epic, and Swan are all still pending, and we are tracking every chain on our Movie Theater Popcorn Buckets hub.
The Fandango Whalebucket Bundle costs $49.99 and includes one Whalefall ticket and one Whalebucket. Shipping is added at checkout; the bucket begins shipping in October, and buyers must be 18 or older. The ticket comes as an emailed promo code that works for any format but can only be redeemed on Fandango.com or in the Fandango app. In-theater pricing has not been announced. Based on comparable sculpted buckets, our estimate is $30 to $45 at the concession stand, but that is an FLN estimate, not an official price.
Tickets are live now on Fandango and at major chains including AMC, Regal, and Cinemark. Whalefall is based on Daniel Kraus’s novel and stars Austin Abrams as Jay Gardiner, a diver who gets swallowed by a sperm whale while searching for his late father’s remains and has one hour of oxygen to escape. Josh Brolin plays his father, and Brian Duffield of No One Will Save You directs. Our Take: If you were already planning to see Whalefall, the Fandango bundle is an easy call. You get your ticket, the bucket shows up at your door, and you skip the concession stand scramble on opening night. If you would rather see which chains carry it and at what price, it is worth waiting a few days. Either way, this is one of the most fun sculpts of the fall, and that little diver hanging on for dear life is what sells it.
