The new Mirror dark ride heading to Villains Land at Magic Kingdom isn’t the first attraction built around Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and it isn’t even the first one built around her Magic Mirror. It’s the latest chapter in a story that started on the day Magic Kingdom opened its gates in 1971. We recently spent time on Maleficent Coaster’s own Sleeping Beauty roots.
Snow White’s Own Ride Opened With the Park in 1971 – Snow White’s Adventures was one of Magic Kingdom’s original attractions on opening day, October 1, 1971. The ride put guests in Snow White’s own point of view as they were chased through the forest by the Witch, which is why Snow White herself never appeared on screen. Later renamed Snow White’s Scary Adventures, it ran for 41 years before closing on May 31, 2012, to make way for Princess Fairytale Hall. That means the villain at the center of Walt Disney’s first feature film has had a physical presence in Magic Kingdom since the park’s first day, more than half a century before Villains Land was ever announced.
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Carried Pieces of It Forward – When Seven Dwarfs Mine Train opened in 2014, it wasn’t a clean break from the old ride. The jib crane on the lift hill, topped by two vultures, was pulled straight from Snow White’s Scary Adventures and reused on the new coaster. The story shifted from the Witch chasing Snow White to a musical trip through the dwarfs’ diamond mine, but the film’s fingerprints stayed in the building.
The Magic Mirror Already Has a Stage at Hollywood Studios – Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After opened at the Sunset Showcase at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on May 27, 2025, and it’s hosted from start to finish by the Magic Mirror. In the show, Cruella de Vil, Captain Hook, and Maleficent each plead their case to be named the most misunderstood villain, while the Evil Queen, described in the show’s own marketing as the original owner of the Mirror, and other villains including Jafar and Hades needle him from the wings. The show isn’t built around Snow White’s story specifically, but its host character is straight out of the 1937 film, and he’s been complaining about his job managing Disney’s villains for over a year now.
Villains Land Puts the Mirror at the Center Again – The new dark ride begins beneath the Evil Queen’s palace, where she keeps the Magic Mirror in her catacombs. After guests find him, he pulls them through the glass and into his Mirror Realm, where he conjures appearances from villains including Cruella de Vil, Dr. Facilier, Ursula, Scar, and Jafar using a mix of physical sets and effects. Disney hasn’t given the ride an official name yet, referring to it so far simply as the Mirror dark ride.
The concept art released at D23 2026 leans into the connection directly. Its accompanying rhyme reads, “Magic Mirror on the wall within his Mirror Realm sees all,” a clear echo of the Evil Queen’s most famous line in the original film. Disney isn’t hinting at the Snow White connection here. It’s writing it into the ride’s own poetry.
Even the Forest Trees Point Back to 1937 – The Imagineering: Horizons pavilion at D23 2026 displayed maquettes of the gnarled, twisted trees planned for the Dark Forest section of Villains Land, and more than one outlet on the show floor described them as Snow White-inspired on sight. The comparison holds up. The 1937 film’s most famous sequence has Snow White fleeing through a forest where the trees seem to grow eyes and grasping branches, and the new models lean on that same idea of a forest that’s alive and hostile.
Our Take – What makes this fun isn’t just that Disney keeps returning to Snow White. It’s that the Evil Queen was the template. She was Walt’s first animated villain, and everything Villains Land is built around, from conjured lairs to a Magic Mirror who’s tired of playing referee, traces back to a character introduced 89 years ago. Magic Kingdom also turns 55 this October, the same month D23’s Spotlight Series event digs into the park’s storytelling history, and Snow White’s ride was there for day one of it. The new Mirror dark ride isn’t just referencing the film. It’s picking up a thread the park has been pulling on since 1971.
