Upper Deck, the worldwide leader in entertainment and sports collectibles, is expanding its license portfolio with a new deal with Hasbro, and the debut product is a Transformers: The Movie 40th Anniversary Special Edition trading card set. Through the agreement, Upper Deck will bring characters and moments from Transformers, Power Rangers, G.I. Joe, M.A.S.K., Jem and the Holograms, and other Hasbro properties to trading cards and games. Hasbro has ranked in License Global’s Top 10 Global Licensors for 11 consecutive years running.
“Hasbro is one of the most recognizable brands in the world and has shaped generations of fans and pop culture storytelling,” said Jason Masherah, President of Upper Deck. “Our goal with this collaboration is to create trading card experiences that honor the franchise legacies while giving fans new ways to engage with the titles they love.”
Transformers 40th Anniversary Special Edition, Exclusively at Target – The debut release lines up with two Transformers milestones already on FLN’s radar this year, the 40th Anniversary of The Transformers: The Movie and the nationally celebrated “Transformers Day” on September 17. The Transformers 40th Anniversary Special Edition trading card set arrives in September exclusively at Target, built around cinematic poster-inspired card art. Every box includes the complete base set along with a “Stellar System” insert series that puts fan-favorite characters against a galaxy backdrop, plus a range of parallels and autographed cards from Peter Cullen, the voice of Optimus Prime since the original film.
A Second Set Coming to Upper Deck’s Fleer Brand – Later this year, a second Transformers: The Movie 40th Anniversary set arrives under Upper Deck’s Fleer brand. The 100-card base set spans memorable characters and scenes from the film across Fleer-inspired base and parallel designs. Inserts include “From Screen to Page,” pulling artwork from the 20th anniversary IDW comic series, “More Than Meets the Eye” flip lenticular cards showing characters in both robot and vehicle mode, and “Instruments of Destruction” 3D lenticular cards spotlighting the Decepticons and other film villains. The Fleer set also includes its own run of autograph cards from select voice actors.
More Hasbro Franchises Are Already on the Way – “Choosing to collaborate with Upper Deck opens the door to premium trading cards that commemorate the properties fans have loved for generations,” said Marianne James, Senior Vice President, Global Licensing at Hasbro. “Transformers, Power Rangers, and G.I. Joe continue to inspire passionate communities around the world.”
The Transformers 40th Anniversary lineup is only the start. Upper Deck has confirmed future collections built around Power Rangers, G.I. Joe, M.A.S.K., and Jem and the Holograms, continuing the same pattern FLN has tracked with Upper Deck’s other recent licensing pushes, including its Harry Potter and DC Comics agreements.
