AMC has revealed its concession collectibles lineup for the 4K theatrical return of The Transformers: The Movie, with a 40th Anniversary popcorn tin wrapped in Cybertron battle artwork as the centerpiece, available starting September 17. It joins a run of recent popcorn bucket announcements, like Batman, tied to anniversary rereleases, and it’s arguably the most nostalgia-loaded of the bunch.
The return is part of Hasbro’s year-long “Apology Tour” campaign, marking 40 years since the original film killed off Optimus Prime and left a generation of kids in theaters genuinely shaken. Fathom Entertainment is distributing the 4K rerelease, and tickets are on sale now for the September 17 event, timed to Transformers Day. Beyond the nostalgia factor, the rerelease comes with a new incentive to stay in your seat: a brand-new post-credits scene created exclusively for this theatrical run.
AMC’s collectibles lineup has three pieces. The 40th Anniversary Tin includes popcorn and is wrapped in artwork showing Optimus Prime and the Autobots under fire from Decepticon lasers, a callback to the film’s most chaotic battle sequences. The 40th Anniversary Cup matches the same design and includes a fountain drink. Rounding out the set is a 40th Anniversary Blanket printed with a torn, weathered version of the film’s poster art and the tagline “40 Years Later. It Still Hits Like a Truck.” AMC hasn’t confirmed pricing yet, but based on comparable 40th and 25th anniversary tin and cup releases, expect the tin to land around $17.99 and the cup around $14.99. These are estimates, not confirmed AMC pricing.
All three items are in-theater only starting September 17, while supplies last, with additional fees applying to online orders. AMC’s fine print also notes that gourmet popcorn is excluded from the tin, the cup includes fountain drink only, and AMC Stubs upgrades don’t apply to the collectible pricing.
The blanket is the standout of the set. Anniversary popcorn buckets tend to blur together after a while, but a blanket gives collectors something to actually use instead of shelve, and leaning into “it still hits like a truck” as the tagline is a fitting bit of self-aware humor for a movie best known for traumatizing ’80s kids, including yours truly!
