We only had a few minutes with Rachel Boston, Erin Cahill, and Taylor Cole during a recent press junket for Hallmark’s Christmas at Sea, but it was one of the most genuinely moving interviews I’ve done. Three of Hallmark’s biggest stars, sitting together, swapping stories about the fans who’ve shaped this experience for them. Christmas at Sea is airing now on Hallmark+, and new episodes premiere each Wednesday. Hallmark Channel is celebrating Christmas in July.
The real emotional core of the interview came when the cast talked about the fans they’ve met on the actual Hallmark Christmas cruises. Rachel Boston described meeting a single mom named Jessica who was starting a new chapter in her life, and how the cast and crew ended up recreating a prom experience for her because she’d never been able to go as a teenager. Tyler Hynes even jumped in to help make it happen. Rachel talked about how surreal it was to watch a Hallmark-movie moment unfold in someone’s real life right in front of her.
Taylor Cole shared a similarly touching story about a woman named Cheryl, recently retired and unsure what came next for her, a moment Taylor connected to a close friend going through the same transition. She talked about how many of these fans are so used to giving love to others that they don’t know how to receive it themselves, and how conversations on the cruise become a chance to help them think about what they deserve too.
Erin also opened up about her current chapter hosting Mom’s the Bride on Hallmark+, the unscripted series where daughters plan their mom’s dream wedding. She called it a run she doesn’t think she can ever top, describing six months of completely falling for these families, from the planning and cake tastings all the way to the big day. She admitted to being “such a sap,” crying at every single wedding, some worse than others, and said she’s still texting with the families today.
What stood out most in this interview wasn’t the polish; it was how unguarded these three were with their answers, even knowing the clock was ticking. When Erin Cahill got emotional talking about the families from Mom’s the Bride she still keeps in touch with, or when Rachel Boston described a fan’s recreated prom moment, none of it felt like a rehearsed press-tour answer. Spending even a few minutes with the people who actually deliver these stories to fans, on screen and off, is a good reminder that the sentiment is coming from somewhere real.
By the end of our short window with them, all three had shared something personal, and it was clear this cast doesn’t just play these roles; they live a version of that same warmth off camera too.
Just a personal note: The interview kicked off with the cast complimenting our backdrop. One of them noticed the Hallmark sign right away, which gave me the chance to explain that most of what’s behind me is actually my husband’s popcorn bucket collection. He’d found an old Hallmark store sign and given me a shelf of my own so I’d be “incorporated” into the display too. It was a sweet, unscripted moment that set a warm, personal tone before the interview even really started, with the cast laughing and telling me what a good husband I have.
