Disney Branded Television has officially rebranded as Disney Kids & Family, and the renamed division is already making its first major announcement: a new original animated series called “Journey” (working title) has been greenlit for Disney+.

Disney Entertainment Television president Debra and Ayo Davis shared the news of the name change in a letter to creative partners on June 15, 2026, writing that the new name “better reflects the creativity, ambition and storytelling we’re known for, while bringing greater clarity to the creative community about who we are and what we create.”
To our creative partners,
We’re writing to let you know about an exciting change at Disney Entertainment Television:
Disney Branded Television is being renamed Disney Kids & Family.
Together, we have built enduring franchises beloved by kids and families around the world. Our new name better reflects the creativity, ambition and storytelling we’re known for, while bringing greater clarity to the creative community about who we are and what we create.
While our name is changing, our commitment to great storytelling – and to all of you – remains exactly the same.
Thank you, as always, for your partnership, collaboration and creativity. We’re grateful for everything we’ve built together… and everything still to come.
Best, Debra & Ayo
“Journey” Animated Series for Disney+
“Journey” is a music-driven fantasy series now in production from Disney Kids & Family and Higher Ground, produced by ICON Creative Studio in association with Disney Television Animation.
The series follows a young heroine named Journey, who answers a mysterious call when the energy shield protecting her city begins to fail. Venturing beyond the city’s walls into forbidden lands, she uncovers the truth about her father’s disappearance and discovers a powerful magic within herself that may be the key to saving her people.
“Journey” (WT) is created by Matt Munn, known for “Ice Age: Collision Course” and “Spies in Disguise,” who will serve as executive producer alongside Peabody Award-winning Steve Loter, the force behind “Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur” and “Kim Possible.” Jessie Dicovitsky serves as executive producer for Higher Ground.
“‘Journey’ is an epic adventure anchored by a remarkable young heroine whose courage inspires those around her,” said Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids & Family. “At its core, it’s a story about resilience, self-discovery and the power of believing in something bigger than yourself.”
Jessie Dicovitsky, head of television at Higher Ground, called the series “a true original that takes bold swings,” adding that the company is proud to build on Higher Ground’s history of meaningful kids and family content. Higher Ground is behind beloved series including “Waffles + Mochi” and “Ada Twist, Scientist.”
“Journey” joins Disney Kids & Family’s growing Disney+ animated slate alongside “Bluey,” “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse+,” “Marvel’s Spidey and his Amazing Friends,” “Big City Greens,” and “Phineas and Ferb.” No premiere date has been announced.
