Descendants: Wicked Wonderland has a premiere date, a first teaser, and a surprising new cast member: Awkwafina will voice Chessy the Cat when the film debuts July 16 on Disney Channel and July 17 on Disney+.

The new teaser pulls Red and Chloe back into Wonderland, this time dealing with the consequences of the events of The Rise of Red. Changing the past created a new villain: Maddox Hatter, who captures the Queen of Hearts and forces Red and Chloe to assemble an unlikely team to save her. That team includes Red’s new sister Pink, Luisa Madrigal’s son Luis, Captain Hook’s daughter Hazel, and Maddox’s own son Max. Loyalties blur fast.
Kylie Cantrall and Malia Baker reprise their roles as Red and Chloe. Returning alongside them are Leonardo Nam as Maddox Hatter, Melanie Paxson as Fairy Godmother, Paolo Montalban as King Charming, Rita Ora as the Queen of Hearts, and Brandy as Cinderella. New cast members include Liamani Segura as Pink, Brendon Tremblay as Max Hatter, Alexandro Byrd as Luis Madrigal, Kiara Romero as Hazel Hook, Joel Oulette as Robbie Hood, Zavien Garrett as Felix Facilier, Ryan McEwen as Squirmy Smee, and Dayton Paradis as Squeaky Smee.
Kimmy Gatewood directs from a script by Tamara Chestna, Dan Frey, and Ru Sommer. Emmy Award-winning choreographer Emilio Dosal, who worked on Wicked and Sneakerella, returns to handle the music-and-dance sequences. Executive producers Suzanne Todd and Gary Marsh are also back.

The Descendants: Wicked Wonderland Original Soundtrack arrives July 17 via Walt Disney Records. A merchandise line is also in the works, including dolls from Mattel, costumes, apparel, and books.
The franchise has been a consistent performer for Disney since the original film launched in 2015, with each of the first three movies ranking as the most-watched cable movie of its year. The Rise of Red debuted on Disney+ in 2024 as the most-watched original movie among kids and girls 6 to 11, generating over 9 billion lifetime views. A live arena tour in summer 2025 sold out more than 40 North American venues.
Our Take: Awkwafina as Chessy the Cat is a genuinely fun casting choice, and the Wonderland-gone-wrong premise gives this one more texture than a straightforward sequel setup. The choreography pedigree with Dosal attached is a good sign. July 16 cannot get here fast enough.
