A KFC x Supergirl collaboration appears to be on the horizon, with promotional images and storyboard art surfacing online suggesting the chicken chain will launch a full Supergirl-themed menu experience ahead of the film’s June 26 theatrical debut.

The rumor caught fire on May 26 when X accounts started posting images of a KFC bucket with Krypto the Superdog perched on top. KFC has not officially confirmed anything as of this writing.

Based on the promotional imagery circulating, the collaboration would include two meal options: a KFC Supergirl Ultimate Meal and a Supergirl Combo Meal. Both appear to feature three character-themed dipping sauces. The sauce packets visible in the leaked spread are labeled Lobo’s Wild Ranch, Supergirl’s Solar Dipping Sauce, and Ruthye’s Sweet Chili Revenge, each named after characters from the film. A Kryptonian Kooler drink in a Supergirl-branded cup is also shown as part of the spread.

The most eye-catching element of the rumored collab is the Krypto Collectible Bucket. The large KFC bucket appears to feature a sculpted Krypto the Superdog figure emerging from the top, ears raised and tongue out, in the same style as theater popcorn collectible buckets. If real, it would land squarely in the crosshairs of both movie merch collectors and the bucket-collecting community FLN has covered extensively. You can explore our full Movie Theater Popcorn Buckets hub for context on how big this category has become.

The images also show blind-bag collectible keychains. A Supergirl mini figure is clearly visible in one of the product shots, suggesting multiple characters could be included across the blind-bag assortment.

The rumored launch dates, which appear in the promotional materials, place the Supergirl Ultimate Meal and Combo Meal on June 8 and the Krypto Collectible Bucket arriving two days later on June 10. That would give KFC more than two weeks of promotional runway before Supergirl hits theaters and IMAX on June 26.

The film stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El and Jason Momoa as the villain Lobo, directed by Craig Gillespie. It is the second film in DC Studios’ rebooted DC Universe following last year’s Superman. The presence of Lobo’s Wild Ranch as a sauce name suggests KFC leaned into the full cast rather than centering the promotion solely on Supergirl.

If the collab is confirmed, it would not be the first time KFC and DC have shared a table. The two brands have a surprisingly long history together. Starting in 2015, KFC partnered with DC’s Custom Creative Studio to produce a series of free promotional comic books featuring Colonel Sanders alongside Justice League heroes. The first issue, The Colonel of Two Worlds, debuted at New York Comic Con and pitted Sanders against his own evil alternate-universe double with help from The Flash and Green Lantern. Two more issues followed in 2016 and 2017, the last of which sent the Colonel on a galaxy-spanning adventure that landed at San Diego Comic-Con. More recently, KFC opened a series of DC-themed restaurant locations in Mexico styled after the Hall of Justice, with character-named meals and six limited-edition collectible figures. A Krypto bucket would fit right into that legacy.

Our Take: The one missed opportunity here is the name. KFC is sitting on what could have been the perfect movie moment and nobody called it a Popcorn Chicken Bucket. Popcorn chicken and a collectible movie bucket are a natural pairing that writes itself, especially for a film releasing in the same summer every theater chain is selling collectible buckets of their own. Even better, KFC could have used the Supergirl collab as the excuse to bring popcorn chicken back to the menu permanently. The item has been gone for years and fans have never stopped asking for it. A Krypto Popcorn Chicken Bucket tied to one of the summer’s biggest DC films would have been the kind of moment people talk about for years. Instead we got tenders, which are fine, but fine is not legendary.
