When Calls The Heart Season Wraps Up with a Proposal, A Send-off, and a Shocking Return. Hallmark Channel’s popular series, ‘When Calls The Heart,’ ended season 13 in spectacular style. The season finale aired the same weekend the prequel series, ‘Hope Valley 1874,’ premiered on Hallmark+.

Season 13 saw a devastating fire ravage the neighboring town of Benson Hills. Many of the displaced came to Hope Valley. Elizabeth had a lot of new students come join her class at the Jack Thornton School. Rosemary and Lee took in Gwen, who needed fostering while her father recooperated in the hospital. The Hickams took in Mike’s sister, Benson Hills mayor, Maisie.

Elizabeth and Nathan grew even closer with Allie and Little Jack through his diabetes diagnosis and subsequent treatment. Little Jack experienced a lot of growing pains this season. He felt the pain of not knowing his father, who passed before he was born. He decided he didn’t want to be called Little Jack anymore and wanted to be called LJ. He desperately wants to be like the bigger kids and do things that may be harder for him with his diagnosis. LJ wanted to see the town like a hawk. Nathan rigged up the water tower and let LJ climb above the town and see it all.

The finale brought the people of Hope Valley together for a fall festival to send off the people of Benson Hills, who can finally return home, thanks to Lee and his construction company. As a surprise before the start of the festival, Joseph and Cooper told Minnie they had a surprise for her. There is Angela, returned from school. She wanted to be home for the festival and for the renaming of the cafe. Joseph and Cooper had not only a large sign above the doors saying Minnie’s Cafe, but they also made the sign in Braille for Angela. Queue the start of the tears.

During the festival, Gwen gave a little speech about how much she loved her time with the Coulters. She grew and gained so much from Lee, Rosemary, and little Goldie. Queue more tears. They really found their way to a family with Gwen, and now she’s going back to her dad. Lucas made an announcement that he is stepping down and will not seek reelection as the Governor. He is putting forth Maisie Hickam as his pick to succeed him. Lucas has fallen for Edie Martel, and she’s leaving town for a few months. Will we see Lucas leave town? Is Chris McNally leaving? Let’s hope not.

Finally, the moment that has been coming for a long time. Nathan took Elizabeth up to the water tower platform and proposed. The ring he gave her has 4 stones. He wanted a stone for each of them. Himself, Elizabeth, Allie, and LJ. More tears. It was a beautiful moment high above Hope Valley.

The final scene is a taxi coming into town. The car stops, and the door opens. Out steps Abigail Stanton, played by returning actress Lori Loughlin. She looks at the camera and smiles, saying, “It’s good to be home.” Audible gasps were heard in our home. Fans knew that Lori Loughlin was returning for six episodes in Season 14, but did not expect to see her in the finale of Season 13. Check the video below.
