Disney Cruise Line officially launched its Asia debut on March 10, with the Disney Adventure departing Singapore on its maiden voyage. The ship is the eighth in the Disney Cruise Line fleet and the first to sail in Asia, bringing the company’s brand of theme park-level storytelling to a region where the nearest Disney park sits more than 1,500 miles away in Hong Kong.

The project behind the Disney Adventure was unlike anything Walt Disney Imagineering had tackled before. Rather than designing a ship from the ground up, Imagineers worked to bring iconic Disney stories into an existing vessel, then adapted that experience specifically for Southeast Asian audiences. The team spent months researching the local market to make sure the storytelling would connect with guests in the region. One result of that work: the first castle at sea in Disney Cruise Line history.

The ship also carries Marvel’s first roller coaster at sea, along with multimedia dining and live stage productions. Joe Schott, President of Disney Signature Experiences, described the Disney Adventure as a brand ambassador for the fleet’s global expansion. “It brings together our storytelling, entertainment, and legendary service in one immersive experience,” Schott said, “creating memories for guests that stay with them long after the voyage ends.”

Early booking data tells a clear story about who the Disney Adventure is reaching. More than 90 percent of guests booked on the ship are sailing with Disney Cruise Line for the first time. Most are also new to cruising altogether. Families make up the majority of passengers, which fits with the multigenerational travel patterns common across Southeast Asia.

What makes those numbers more striking is what they reveal about brand reach. Nearly all of those first-time cruisers already have a relationship with Disney through films, theme parks, television, or consumer products. The cruise is a new format, but the stories are familiar.

Disney Cruise Line is not stopping with Singapore. The fleet is set to grow to 13 ships by 2031, with five currently in development. The company is also working with Oriental Land Co. to bring Disney cruises to Japan in 2029. The fleet is already more than 80 percent sold for fiscal year 2026, even as capacity continues to grow following the November debut of the Disney Destiny in Fort Lauderdale.
