Disney has released the first look at Descendants: Wicked Wonderland, the next chapter in the popular musical franchise. The teaser trailer debuted alongside the Descendants/ZOMBIES Worlds Collide: Concert Special, which is now available for streaming on Disney+.
The upcoming film is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ and Disney Channel this summer. It serves as a direct follow-up to the 2024 movie, Descendants: The Rise of Red.
The story returns to Red and Chloe as they navigate life in present-day Wonderland. While the pair hoped for a peaceful future after their recent adventures, they quickly learn that changing the past has a cost.
In the new footage, Red and Chloe attempt to hide the time-traveling pocket watch inside the Royal Vault. Their secret is under threat from Maddox Hatter, who has shifted from an ally to a villain. He is now searching for the watch to rewrite the fate of Wonderland for himself.
Several cast members from previous films are returning to their roles.
Kylie Cantrall as Red
Malia Baker as Chloe
Rita Ora as the Queen of Hearts
Brandy as Cinderella
Paolo Montalban as King Charming
Leonardo Nam as Maddox Hatter
Melanie Paxson as Fairy Godmother
The movie also introduces a new group of characters, including Liamani Segura as Pink, Alexandro Byrd as Luis Madrigal, and Brendon Tremblay as Max Hatter. Other new additions include children of classic Disney characters like Hazel Hook, Robbie Hood, and Felix Facilier.
Production and Legacy
Kimmy Gatewood directed the film, working from a script by Tamara Chestna, Dan Frey, and Ru Sommer. The production team also brought back choreographer Emilio Dosal to lead the dance sequences.
The Descendants series has been a major success for Disney since it began in 2015. The first three movies were the most-watched cable films of their respective years. The most recent entry, The Rise of Red, continued this trend by becoming the most-watched original movie on Disney+ for its target audience. Fans can currently find the entire collection of films and the new concert special on Disney+.
