The Sonic the Hedgehog cinematic universe is expanding, and it just found its pink powerhouse. Kristen Bell, best known as the voice of Anna in Disney’s Frozen, has officially joined the cast of Sonic the Hedgehog 4 to voice the fan-favorite character Amy Rose.

Who is Amy Rose?

For those new to the rings and chaos emeralds, Amy Rose is an iconic pink hedgehog from the SEGA video game series. Known for her bubbly personality and her massive, magical Piko Piko Hammer, she is often portrayed as Sonic’s self-proclaimed girlfriend and most loyal admirer. While she started as a “damsel in distress” in 1993’s Sonic CD, she has since evolved into a brave, independent hero who isn’t afraid to jump into the middle of a fight.

Ben Schwartz Reacts

Sonic himself, Ben Schwartz, couldn’t contain his excitement about the casting. Taking to X (formerly Twitter) to welcome his new co-star, Schwartz posted:

“WE HAVE OUR AMY ROSE!!! And I could not be more excited!!! Please welcome the incredible Kristen Bell to the @SonicMovie family!!!”

When is the Movie Coming Out?

Fans will have to wait a little while to see the “Frozen” star trade ice for speed. Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is currently being developed by Paramount Pictures and is scheduled to hit theaters on March 19, 2027.

With the franchise already crossing the $1 billion mark at the global box office, the addition of Bell as Amy Rose suggests that Paramount is ready to keep the momentum going at supersonic speeds.
