Disney Studios ‘Gaston’ Disney’s Next Live-Action Villain? Disney is diving back into the world of Beauty and the Beast, but this time, the focus is all on the arrogant hunter, Gaston. Sources confirm to Deadline that the studio is in early development on a new live-action movie centered on the iconic villain. Insiders suggest the project will have a “swashbuckling” tone. Gaston first appeared in the beloved 1991 animated classic as the ruthless local hunter obsessed with marrying Belle.
While plot details are being kept under wraps, this will be a new and original take on the character with a new actor stepping into the role. Dave Callaham, known for writing major blockbusters like Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Godzilla x Kong, is penning the script. Michelle Rejwan, a veteran producer with deep ties to Disney and Lucasfilm (where she worked on Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Andor), is producing the film.
Luke Evans played the character in the highly successful 2017 live-action adaptation, which grossed over a billion dollars worldwide, sparking initial interest in a stand-alone project for the villain.
With a high-profile writer and producer attached, it looks like Disney is eager to bring this fan-favorite antagonist back to the big screen!
