Muppet Legend Dave Goelz Calls New Muppet Show Special a “Very Legitimate Effort”, and if Gonzo says so, then we are tuning in! ‘The Muppet Show‘ is returning for an ‘Event’ with Sabrina Carpenter on Disney+. This will be a one-off event and not a return of the full-time show, as was speculated; it will be a return to the variety show format. Starring Sabrina Carpenter as special guest, with The Muppets, Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, Fozzie, and more.
Now, we have some good news from Dave Goelz about the 2026 Muppets Show coming to Disney+. “A very legitimate effort, a credible job, and I think people will like it,” the Muppeter, Puppeter, said recently at The Walt Disney Family Museum.
Dave Goelz joined Jim Henson in 1973 as a puppet designer/builder and eventually became a core Muppet Performer. He performs The Great Gonzo, Bunsen Honeydew, Zoot, Beauregard, Waldorf, Chip, Boober, and Traveling Matt Fraggle, along with many others. He has starred in most Jim Henson and Muppet television programs and feature films since 1973, including The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth.
Disney+ announced the show’s return in September 2025: “It’s time to play the music, it’s time to light the lights, it’s time to get things started as The Muppet Show returns for a triumphant event on Disney+ in 2026 with special guest star Sabrina Carpenter! This brand-new instalment from The Muppets Studio and Point Grey Pictures will feature Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, and the gang as they return to the Muppet Theatre to put on a variety show filled with music, comedy, and plenty of chaos.”
