Universal Epic Universe is getting a new indoor thrill coaster in Dark Universe, Universal Orlando announced November 5, 2026. It will sit next to Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment, with a new Universal Monsters story. Construction has started. Universal only says it will open “in the years ahead.” It is the next big addition for the park TIME named one of the World’s Greatest Places this year.
What we know:
- It is an indoor thrill coaster.
- It is in Dark Universe, next to Monsters Unchained.
- It has a new story based on the Universal Monsters.
- Construction has already started.
What we do not know yet: The name, which monsters it features, the height requirement and when it opens. Universal says more details are coming later.
Why Dark Universe needs it: Right now, Dark Universe has two rides. Monsters Unchained is a dark ride, and Curse of the Werewolf is a family coaster. An indoor thrill coaster gives the land a ride for the guests who want something scarier and faster.
More coming to Universal Orlando: Universal also listed what is coming over the next year:
- The new Universal Horror Make-Up Show featuring Blumhouse opens later this year at Universal Studios Florida.
- Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, a fast coaster, opens in 2027 at Universal Studios Florida.
- A new sit-down restaurant opens in Jurassic Park at Islands of Adventure in 2027.
- Luke Combs’ Category 10, a music venue, opens at Universal CityWalk in late 2027.
Our take: Epic Universe opened in May 2025, and Universal is already adding a ride. That is a good sign. Dark Universe is one of the best-themed lands in the park, and a real thrill coaster is the one thing it was missing.
