Disney has released a new trailer and poster for Diary of a Wimpy Kid Christmas: The Getaway, the animated holiday comedy streaming Friday, December 4, 2026, exclusively on Disney+. Based on Jeff Kinney’s best-selling book series, the movie sends the Heffley family to an all-inclusive island resort to escape the stress of Christmas at home.
The family makes a last-minute decision to skip the holidays at home, much to Greg’s dismay, and soon learns that paradise may not be everything it’s cracked up to be. The story comes from The Getaway, the 12th book in the series, first published in 2017.
Jacob Isaac Peterson voices Greg Heffley. He is the fourth actor to voice Greg in the animated movies, following Brady Noon, Wesley Kimmel and Aaron D. Harris, who voiced him in The Last Straw last December. Chris Diamantopoulos and Erica Cerra return as Greg’s parents, Frank and Susan. Disney fans may know Diamantopoulos as the voice of Mickey Mouse in the Mickey Mouse cartoon shorts.
Here is the rest of the voice cast:
- Hunter Dillon as Greg’s sarcastic older brother, Rodrick
- Gracen Newton as Greg’s younger brother, Manny
- Jude Zarzaur as Greg’s best friend, Rowley
- Fred Armisen as the over-eager Director of Fun
- Beau Bridges as the seafaring Captain Stubbard
- Jeff Hiller as the First Class Flight Attendant
- Keyla Monterroso Mejia as the Receptionist
Matt Danner, who directed The Last Straw, returns to direct, and Kinney wrote and produced the film. The Getaway is the fifth animated Wimpy Kid movie on Disney+, after Diary of a Wimpy Kid in 2021, Rodrick Rules in 2022, Christmas: Cabin Fever in 2023 and The Last Straw in 2025. All of them, plus the live-action films, are streaming now in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid Collection on Disney+.
