Monstropolis Food Revealed: Eyeball Ramen at Harryhausen’s and Frozen Blort at Archie’s

Disney has shared the first look at the food coming to Monstropolis when the Monsters, Inc. land opens at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2027. Harryhausen’s will serve ramen with fishcake sliced to look like eyeballs and green eggs. Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza will pour a frozen purple version of Blort, the soda from the films.

The details come from a new Disney Eats video filmed at the Flavor Lab, the culinary test kitchen at Walt Disney World. It features Chef Brian Piasecki, Director of Culinary and Concept Development, and Beverage Director Evan Rosenthal. Disney said at D23 in August that Harryhausen’s would have a menu unlike anything else at Walt Disney World. This is the first time we have seen what that means.

Harryhausen’s is the land’s table-service restaurant, named in tribute to stop-motion legend Ray Harryhausen, with an Audio-Animatronic sushi chef at work in the dining room. Piasecki said the menu is “more than just sushi.” “One of the dishes at Harryhausen’s that we’re really proud of is our ramen bowl,” he said, and there will be a couple of different types. Disney describes a rich tonkotsu broth and alkaline ramen noodles, finished with the eyeball fishcake and green eggs.

The Flavor Lab table in the video gives a few more hints. It is set with sheets of nori, fresh noodles, mushrooms, spinach, eggs, a carafe of broth, and breaded cutlets both raw and fried. Disney has not said which of those make the final menu. Piasecki summed up the goal this way: “I want to say gross, but not too gross. So we’ll say grossly fun.”

Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza is the quick-service spot, named for Fear Tech’s mascot. The team says it should feel like your favorite college pizza joint, the place monsters from every university go. The inspiration is a scene in Monsters University where Mike falls asleep studying with a slice of pizza and a can of Blort beside him.

“Blort is one of the most popular soft drinks in all of Monstropolis. But nobody knows what it looks like. Nobody knows what it tastes like,” Rosenthal said. Disney’s answer is a frozen purple drink topped with Scream Apple Foam, which is pale green in the video. Disney has not said what flavor the purple part is. A bowl of gummy eyeballs sits next to the cup, with no word yet on where those end up.

Piasecki said one of the biggest challenges was making food that feels true to monsters and still appeals to guests. Early on, the team asked questions like “do they slurp? Do they chew?” It all has to fit H.U.M.A.N. Day, the land’s story about monsters welcoming humans in. When the team ran ideas past Walt Disney Imagineering, the answer was often to push further. Rosenthal’s rule: “you can never have enough eyeballs in Monstropolis!”

Our take: this is the right approach. The jokes sit on top of food people already order, so a Pixar fan and a picky eater can both find something. What Disney has not shared yet is the full menus, prices, or an opening date beyond 2027.
