Alien Swirling Saucers is getting an entirely new soundtrack starting Friday, September 25, as Lilypad, the frog-shaped smart tablet from Toy Story 5, joins the backyard at Toy Story Land and takes over as DJ for a reimagined lineup called Lilypad’s Jams.
Lilypad’s whole gimmick is connecting friends through technology, and Imagineering leaned into that by having her connect to the internet to remix and mash up music across genres for the ride. To build the actual soundtrack, Imagineers worked with musicians in Nashville, pulling from pop, country, EDM, and alt-rock. Thomas Niederhiser, Senior Creative Producer at Walt Disney Imagineering, said the team wanted to think about the music in a completely new way, blending fresh original songs in with material fans already know.
We first covered Lilypad back when Mattel and LeapFrog introduced her as the film’s new tech-themed character during Roundup Reveal Week, and again when we broke down the full Toy Story 5 park activation plan that named Alien Swirling Saucers as one of the attractions getting updates tied to the film.
The lineup remixes classic Toy Story songs including “You’ve Got a Friend in Me,” “We Belong Together,” and “I Can’t Let You Throw Yourself Away,” alongside brand-new tracks written specifically for the attraction. Those include “Pizza Planet Promo,” an in-universe jingle for the franchise’s fictional pizza arcade, and “Spin It Back, Lilypad,” a tribute to the newest toy in the backyard. Imagineers also said the new mashup format gives more of the extended toy cast airtime, including Partysaurus Rex.
Guests don’t need to ride to join in. Lilypad DJs for the whole backyard, and guests standing outside the attraction can sing along, guess which toy she’s doodling on her drawing app, help her solve puzzles, and watch short “home video” clips of familiar Toy Story characters between songs.
The timing lines up closely with Toy Story 5 itself, which starts streaming on Disney+ on September 23, just two days before Lilypad’s Jams debuts at the attraction.
