All the world’s a stage, what light through yonder window breaks, the plays the thing. Well, in Much About Love, the play truly is the thing. Much About Love premieres tonight on Hallmark Channel and will be available tomorrow on Hallmark+. This Fall Into Love movie sees Ashley Williams and Niall Matter team up once again in this Shakespearean romcom about Bea, who returns to her theater roots for a Shakespeare festival and runs into an old flame, Benny, rekindling a merry war of wits in this modern retelling of “Much Ado About Nothing.”

Much About Love is a Shakespeare and romcom fans’ greatest wish. This is a Much Ado About Nothing retelling of The Taming of the Shrew. The attention to detail surrounding the Shakespearean elements was not lost on me, right down to the names Bea and Benny. This is thoughtfully written by Ashley Williams and her husband, Neal Dodson. Ashley had said during the Hallmark Channel’s 25th birthday that she was very excited about this project, as she’s a “Shakespeare nerd.” This reminds me of the Jane Austen movies that Hallmark Channel has put out in the past.

This is not the first time that Ashley Williams and Niall Matter have starred opposite each other. The last time was in the fan-favorite Never Kiss a Man in an Ugly Christmas Sweater. The chemistry is still there. Sometimes you can tell when the chemistry just doesn’t hit, but this is not the case. They work brilliantly together.

If you love the classic enemies-to-lovers trope mixed with some literary charm, then Much About Love needs to be on your weekend watchlist. Bea (pronounced Be-ah, short for Beatrice) returns home to help her mom put on the annual Shakespeare festival and direct their telling of Taming of the Shrew. Turns out her old flame, Benny, is starring in the production. True to the original Bard’s work, their reunion sparks a “merry war of wits.” This is filled with banter, definite tension, and a lot of stubbornness.

This movie is full of fall vibes, Shakespearean fun, and, of course, love. It swaps out the usual third-act misunderstanding with humility, second chances, and the importance of having friends who want you to believe in yourself. I’m predicting that fans will love this as much as I did. But don’t take my word on it; watch it for yourself.
