Jeff Vahle, President of Walt Disney World Resort, has announced he will retire this summer after 36 years with The Walt Disney Company, closing out a remarkable career that began on the floor of Magic Kingdom itself.
Vahle shared the news directly with his team before it became public, releasing a characteristically low-key statement and posting on LinkedIn. He started his Disney career as an engineer at Magic Kingdom and rose to lead the resort through one of the most consequential periods of growth in its history. His tenure has included the ongoing expansion of the Walt Disney World campus, deepening community partnerships, and shepherding major milestones alongside the resort’s Cast Members.

He plans to remain in the role through late July, and he made clear he is not coasting to the finish line. In his statement, Vahle said he is looking forward to launching Cool Kids’ Summer, the opening of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets, and an updated Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run before he steps away. For fans tracking the full scope of what is ahead at the resort this year, the Disney Lakeshore Lodge and additional expansions are part of a broader wave of investment that Vahle helped set in motion.
No successor has been announced at this time.
Vahle’s full statement reads: “Today, I shared with our team that after 36 years with Disney, I’ll be retiring this summer. I started my career as an engineer at Magic Kingdom and I’m wrapping it up with the best job ever, leading Walt Disney World into a period of remarkable growth in partnership with our incredible Cast Members and community. I’ll be here through late July, so I’ll save the reminiscing for later. In the meantime, there’s a lot ahead, from launching Cool Kids’ Summer to opening Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets and an updated Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. It’s an exciting time at Walt Disney World, and I’m looking forward to being part of it in the months ahead.”
Our Take: Jeff Vahle ends his run the way he apparently started it, focused on the work in front of him, not the spotlight. We have had the pleasure of crossing paths with Jeff many times over the years, and he was always genuinely gracious with his time. Every conversation left an impression, whether he was talking about the Cast Members he clearly adored, the deep history of the parks, or dropping just enough of a hint about what was coming to get your imagination running, without ever giving away the real answer. The man was busy by any measure, and he still stopped for a selfie. That says a lot. Thirty-six years is a career most people in any industry never match, and the fact that he is going out with Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets and Cool Kids’ Summer on his checklist says everything about the kind of leader he has been. Whoever takes this seat next inherits a resort in genuine momentum, and that is largely his doing.
