In the episode titled “Blinded By the Light”, Kat emerges from the pond in the summer of 1925, where she encounters a young and carefree Grandma Fern and becomes immersed in the Port Haven of the 1920s. Meanwhile, Alice returns to the 1970s and reunites with Young Colton and Young Evelyn, but she soon discovers that both have experienced big changes in their lives.  Hoping to fill the void left by his mother’s disappearance, Del reaches out to Elliot.

The premiere episode of ‘The Way Home’ picked up where we left off in Season 3. Kat, Elliot, and Alice are looking to jump to try to find Elliot’s mom, Tessa, who they believe jumped. The trio jumps into the pond with Sam watching. They end up in 1983, where baby Elliot is in a basket by the pond.

Danny arrives at the Landry house to tell Del that Jacob is leaving town on a bus. Sam walks in, and he and Del take off to try to stop Jacob. Jacob tells Del that he needs to leave and try to make it in this time on his own. Kat, Alice, and Elliot take baby Elliot to the farm. They leave him with Del and Colton. Back in the present, they tell Del about Tessa leaving baby Elliot and that she had to be accompanied by a Landry in order for the pond to work. Elliot decides he doesn’t care to find her, knowing that she abandoned him by the pond.

We move forward in time 7 months to Alice’s graduation. Del digs up a time capsule that she meant to dig up when Kat graduated, but the tragedies that befell the Landry family around that time prevented her from doing so. The letter that she reads to Alice was meant for Kat. Del encourages Alice to write a letter to her future child. Jacob sent Alice a pristine set of the Alice books that Colton left for Kat.

While Alice is digging up a spot for her time capsule, she digs up a suitcase that is full of Tessa Augustine’s belongings. Lewis Goodwin won a lot of old films. Alice walked into Lingermore with Max, and while she’s alone, she sees Fern Landry in the film from the 1920s. Fern is dancing, and Kat breaks into the frame and talks to Fern. Alice takes the film and brings it to Kat and Elliot.

This proves that Kat goes back to the 20s to look for Elliot’s mom. Elliot tries to jump with Kat, but the pond won’t let him. He cries to Del that the pond won’t let him go find his mom. Alice and Kat are separated. The episode ends with Fern Landry greeting the mother and daughter both times. Older Fern greets Alice, and younger Fern greets Kat. Both versions of Fern say, “And when exactly are you from, dearie?”

New to this season are Bianca Melchior as young Fern Landry, Gabriel Hogan as Grayson Goodwin, and Dan Jeannotte as Port Haven’s new Temperance Inspector, Cliff Kane. If you are lost, check out Before the Pond Closes: Your Complete Guide to The Way Home Season 4
