New vintage-style signage is being painted on the building at Disney’s Hollywood Studios ahead of the Walt Disney Studios Courtyard opening on May 26, and if it looks familiar, that is entirely by design.

The sign is still being painted, but when complete, it will read “Walt Disney Studios Mickey Mouse and Silly Symphony Sound Cartoons” in the retro typography of the golden age of Hollywood animation. It is a direct nod to the signage style used at the real Walt Disney Studios lot in Burbank, California, and it immediately calls to mind the beloved sign in Hollywood Land at Disney California Adventure. Consider it the Florida cousin of a sign that DCA fans already know well. The version currently visible behind the construction walls shows the work in progress, with the full design still coming together.

The Walt Disney Studios Courtyard opens May 26 as part of Cool Kids’ Summer at Walt Disney World. The outdoor space is designed around the atmosphere of the Burbank studio lot, with a Studio Theater continuing to house The Little Mermaid: A Musical Adventure and a nearby soundstage welcoming Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! The whole area is built as a relaxed, park-like setting for families to explore between shows.
The sign alone already has us ready for opening day. Follow all the Cool Kids’ Summer coverage at Fantasy Land News and join our community at fantasylandnews.com/the-realm.
