“Sofia the First: Royal Magic” now has a locked premiere date and a roster of princess guest stars that makes this one of the most anticipated Disney Jr. series in years. The new show premieres Sunday, May 25, 2026, on Disney Jr. at 7:00 a.m. EDT/PDT, with the first eight episodes streaming on Disney+ on Tuesday, May 26.

Disney confirmed the premiere date alongside new key art and a reveal of the series’ updated theme song, which drops today, April 3, ahead of the full soundtrack arriving May 29 through Walt Disney Records. We first covered this series back in February when Disney dropped the initial teaser and announced the May window.

Sofia the First Royal Magic Premieres May 25 Moana Rapunzel Jasmine and More Confirmed as Guest Stars

Moana, Rapunzel, Jasmine, Cinderella, Aurora, and Elena of Avalor Will Appear

Disney today confirmed the full lineup of princess guest stars who will appear throughout the series to offer Sofia guidance at key moments in her journey. Moana, Rapunzel, Jasmine, Cinderella, Aurora, and Elena of Avalor are all set to make special appearances across the season.

The most notable addition is Moana, who has never before shared the screen with Sofia. Auli’i Cravalho returns to voice the character, joining returning series lead Ariel Winter, who is back as Sofia. The classic Disney Princesses have always been a defining element of the original series, and this new chapter continues that tradition while expanding the roster for a new generation.

The series picks up with Sofia enrolling at The Charmswell School for Royal Magic, where she discovers she is the most magical princess in the realm. The season follows her as she works to master her powers while building new friendships with her classmates.

Joining Ariel Winter in the regular cast are Nate Torrence as Pepper, Mela Pietropaolo as Layla, Kai Harris as Zane, and Aaliyah Magcasi as Camila. Several beloved voices from the original series are returning as well, including Wayne Brady as Clover, Tim Gunn as Baileywick, Eric Stonestreet as Minimus, Sara Ramirez as Queen Miranda, Travis Willingham as King Roland, Darcy Rose Byrnes as Amber, and Jess Harnell as Cedric.

The recurring cast adds Beanie Feldstein as Wildfyre, Yvette Nicole Brown as Lady Saddlespur, James Monroe Iglehart as Lord Primrose, Jeremy Swift as Mr. Muddykins, and Tony Hale as Mimsy Fizzlewick. Craig Gerber, creator and executive producer of the original Emmy Award-winning series, returns in both roles for this continuation.

The original “Sofia the First” premiered in 2012 and remains one of the most successful preschool franchises Disney has ever produced. The series holds the record for the Top 3 cable TV telecasts for Girls 2-5 of all time, and the franchise has logged more than 3 billion hours watched since its debut. Retail sales have exceeded $1 billion globally, and more than 3,000 publishing titles have been released across international markets.

The original theme song has accumulated 130 million audio and video streams, with an additional 801 million user-generated content streams. The updated theme song for the new series is a reimagining of that original track.

Parks and Merchandise Tie-Ins Arriving This Summer

Sofia’s return extends well beyond the streaming premiere. She will be part of Walt Disney World’s Cool Kids’ Summer 2026, which we have been tracking as one of the signature summer experiences at the resort this year.

At the Disneyland Resort, the Disney Jr. Let’s Play! Party returns in August, launching with a one-day special event designed for families with young children at Disney California Adventure. Sofia will be part of that celebration as well.

On the product side, Just Play is launching a new line of “Sofia the First: Royal Magic” toys and role-play items this summer. The collection will be available exclusively at Walmart in the United States before rolling out at other retailers globally.

How to Watch and Get Ready

The series premieres May 25 on Disney Jr. and begins streaming May 26 on Disney+. If you want to catch up before the premiere, the original TV movie “Sofia the First: Once Upon a Princess” is already available on Disney+, along with all four seasons of the original series. The new theme song is available starting today, and the full soundtrack arrives May 29.

This is a series with genuine staying power behind it. The return of the classic Disney Princesses alongside a fresh set of characters gives it a clear identity for both longtime fans and kids who are discovering Sofia for the first time. For a Disney Jr. series to command this level of cast and creative investment, the expectation has to be that this runs for multiple seasons.
