HBO has released the first official teaser for its upcoming Harry Potter series, revealing the full cast and confirming a Christmas 2026 premiere. The eight-episode first season is titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and will air on HBO with streaming available exclusively on Max.
The series follows Harry Potter, an 11-year-old who receives a letter of admittance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, pulling him into a world of magic, friendship, and danger. The official logline describes a hidden past enemy as the central threat of the first season, which is based directly on J.K. Rowling’s debut novel.
Dominic McLaughlin plays Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton plays Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout plays Ron Weasley. John Lithgow takes on the role of Albus Dumbledore, with Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid. Luke Thallon plays Quirinus Quirrell, Johnny Flynn plays Lucius Malfoy, and Bel Powley and Daniel Rigby play Petunia and Vernon Dursley. Warwick Davis, who appeared in the original films, returns to the franchise as Professor Flitwick.
Francesca Gardiner wrote and executive-produced the series. Mark Mylod, known for his work on Succession and The Menu, directs multiple episodes and also serves as executive producer. J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman round out the producing team. The series is produced by HBO in association with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television.
The series debuts Christmas 2026 on HBO. It will stream exclusively on Max in regions where the platform is available, including the United States, Germany, Italy, and the newly launched UK and Ireland markets. The teaser was revealed at the HBO Max UK and Ireland launch event ahead of the platform going live there.
